Oh, and here's a link to a very informative set of posts on the single- and multiple-piston topic on a (horrors!) vintage mustang forum.

Pay special attention to "GT289".

As much as I want to love this car, I can't. In the same price range, my choice would be the new E Class. The new E Class looks much more sleek and sporty compared to the new 5'er.

Better drive it before you make that choice. I tried a Merc E350 at the Drive Event and drove like total crap compared to the F10. The biggest deficiency was the ancient boat-anchor tranny they had in that car. I didn't see the point of the paddle shifters in the car because the tranny didn't really pay attention to them anyway. *click*.... long pause... *shift* The brakes were real solid, though. And the drivers seat was nice and comfy.

New E-Class?! Are you on Drugs?? It looks like Mercedes toke the back end of a 2005-2009 Hyundai Sonata and the front end of a Lexus GS and mixed a few Mercedes details in and called it a day. Plus the new E-Class is based of bits from the C-Class and the interior is cheap. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? LOL

Nice! I'm going to the event on Sunday; can't wait to see how it drives. Did you have enough time to drive all the cars available? (335d/135i/F10)? Or did you have to pick which ones?

I was able to drive the Merc E350, 550i, and 535i GT at the event as well as a Z4 that wasn't part of the event. It's all based on how booked the cars are, I guess. They also had a Lexus and Audi which I didn't drive.

I share your opinions on these two cars. The blunt front end of the F10 is a real shame ; it spoils what otherwise would have been a good looking car.

As far as the E Class W212 sedan is concerned, there are no shared parts with C Class other than the 3.5L V6 engine which will soon be replaced with a DI V6. Perhaps you are thinking of the "E Class" coupes which really are based on the C Class.

As for the quality of the W212 interior, almost every automotive journal review that I have read (inc. British, American and Canadian articles) offers compliments on the high quality of the E Class sedan's interior.

Hmm I think the American event was different from the Canadian one. BMW Canada is brining 535i, 550i, 550iGT, 335d, 135i, 335i, and X6 AH. I'm interested in checking out the AH at the event since I (nor anyone in my family) would have any intention of buying and and thus test driving at the dealer. This would be a good opportunity to check out BMW's definition of hybrid.

Perhaps he was comparing it to the F10. I've sat in both the W212 and the F10 for a while and thoroughly checked out everything about both. While I agree that the W212 is very nice, it does not come anywhere near the F10. The W212 is an improvement over the W211 (my dad has it so I can compare), but the F10 is a "revolutionary" (maybe that's too strong a word) improvement over the E60. So the F10 really does come out on top in terms of interior quality.
