Sorry I can't answer your questions. I sure do hope BMW gets on top of their quality issues. Fuel pump failures, turbo failures and now water pump fires - it appears that BMW technology leaps have moved faster than their quality and component testing and procurement programs.

the 1-800 BMWNA # indicates the affected 550i & xi for production date from March 2010 - October 2010 ONLY.
Letter is going out to those owners early November and I have already seen in blogs that there are parts shortage in NA. |

Update: I called around to some other dealers and just asked them did I need the letter to bring in before they would approve the repair since my local dealer said they had no approval from BMW yet.
After giving my VIN, one dealer said they could take the car in and it would be <1 day job to complete the repair. I guess the various dealer systems are starting to populate with the affected VINs so give your dealer a ring if you are in the recall group. Might just get lucky.

I had mine done last week and when I picked up the car I noticed a 'swooshing' water and pulsating sound from the engine. It was loud inside the car and you can feel it in the steering and brake pedal. I left the car and I was told they had to replace a different water pump and they bled the system. I have my car back and though the noise is minimized I can still feel a pulsating sensation in the brake pedal.

Performed the recall a few days ago as my car was in for maintenance. Advisor put the recall task on the job list and it displayed 1 hour to be completed.
ps - btw my car was produced on 11/2009 |
