Hey all! Having some weird issues with my trans. Car has 90k miles has been dealer maintained its whole life. I took it out the other day, it drives and shifts beautifully as always. When I put into park it clunked. So I put it back into reverse, clunk. Drive same clunk and a little bit of a delay. I have the 3.0 i6 on this.
Car is shifting up/down harshly as well. My mechanic (jcl in pa) said it was a bad differential/trans bushing so he replaced that and I had the 100k service done at the same time. New fluid, trans filter. It's still behaving the same and they have no idea what is going on. There are no codes, they reset the adaptations. Everything. It seems like these transmissions are very reliable and this car really makes little power so it's not putting much stress on the trans imo. Called a specialty European transmission place in Hackensack nj called European exchange. Real nice guy he said maybe a valve body is bad but they don't have much experience with the zf8at. Will have the car towed there next week. Thanks for any insight. |

I'm going though something similar and this is the thread I'm working on. Think it's a worn or loose center support shaft bearing, worn flex plate, and rear differential mounts. Will replace all and inform you if it fixed my clunk issue.

Thanks guys. It's showing symptoms of possibly low fluid, except it's not low. Slow engage into drive and very harsh. The car bucks a little when before it would transition with barely any movement. So weird.

Your welcome, I'm still new at this so don't quote me on anything. Lol did they replace any seals for the mechatronic unit? Because I know a few have the tendency to go bad, and make your car act weird.

Update: had the rear diff bushing replaced and the 100k trans service done. Didn't fix it. Trans software was up to date, no codes, no leaks.
Brought it back left it for a week and they said they reprogrammed the car-whatever that means. It drives amazing now. Smooth clean shifts how it's supposed to. Happy as a clam. |
