2011 5 Series (F10) Photos in Jet Black [11/4/09]
Here comes the new BMW 5 Series. This has got to be the most hotly anticipated new BMW in recent memory. While the current E60 5 Series was a bit of a polarizing car, the BMW top brass has promised this car to be the most beautiful BMW is recent history. What does that mean exactly? The car will likely appeal to all the senses and not carry any distracting or ostentatious design cues that some BMWs have had in order to get attention or stand out. This new trend is reminiscint of 1990s BMWs.
The svelte design will be mated to BMWs current generation of engines including the increasing proliferation of turbo technology. The interior has been seen as closely mirroring what is on the new F01 7 Series as well as the F07 5 Series GT. Take my word for it, this is a VERY good thing. The interiors are at the same time elegant, beautiful, highly functional and extremly high quality. Basicly the opposite the direction Benz has taken. I can no longer count the times people have spit out the rumors of a November 22-24 official presentation date. If true, I would keep my eyes peeled about 1-2 days before then for the first leaks which will be shortly followed by the official release and then the full press meet and greet. With the release just around the bend, the car should likely be in showrooms and available to order this spring with deliveries in the early Summer 2010. |

But believe me, the press launch IS the 24th. I work for a car media (can't tell more), and we received the invitation today saying it will be that day, in Germany

FWIW, the interior of the E65 didn't hold up very well over time. I know, I have one Agreed though the F01 failed when it came to interior quality. I was looking for something... more Audi? It pains me to say that but its true.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not impressed. I really feel like this is a step backward to "apologize" for the Bangle era. I think the F01's exterior is a bit boring and from what I can see this follows the same trend.
I do like what they are doing with the interiors though. I think the gauges and the center stack all look very nice. I'm not totally sure if I like how the screen is set into the dash or not though. The transition into the screen looks a little like and afterthought. I also like the direction they are heading with the engines. Lots of torque with reasonable fuel economy is nice. |
