Routing OBDII cable for JB4 install on a F10 550i
Hey guys I looked through Terry's thread on N54 forums and it provides no instructions as to how to route the OBDII cable from the engine bay to the inside of the car. I saw on a youtube video for a 328i that there is a grommet which you can poke out to pass the wire but I don't see anything similar on my car.
Here is a video for a 328i. Thanks, any guidance would be greatly appreciated. |

550 should be the same as 535i which I have done. There was a grommet available near the brake booster. I found it easier to insert a long screwdriver from the cabin side through the grommet, tape the JB4 wire to it and then pull it back in. It has been a while since I did it, but I don't remember it being difficult to do.

Hmm I don't see any free grommets without wires running through them already in my car. There is a large grommet with a bundle of cords running though and one just next to it with a cord running through.

I had the same problem. I kept trying to go in where the hood latch cable went through. If you look to the right of the brake booster just below the trim that separates the windshield from.the firewall....there's a small round foam/carpet cover....circular shaped. Pull that off. Push your hanger or screw driver through there. Attach the obd2 cable with tape and pull it through.

Mine is a manual 550i so doesn't seem to have that spot. I just finished running the OBDII cable by taking apart the underhood cable and pushing it back into the cabin. I then cut a hole in the base, shrink wrapped the connector and put it into the boot. Slid the OBDII connector through then the hood cable and pulled and fit the grommet. Not ideal but with the 3rd pedal there is less room for a big guy with 2-3XL hands to work.
