Tip: If you code the temperatures to show on the TPMS page (on new cars), then if you change wheels the system will not re-initialise. You have to change it back (pressure only), reset the TPMS and drive a bit, and then code back the temperatures.

Also, before you code the HU-NBT, save your profile onto the USB stick. The coding seems to reset everything, but a quick restore from the USB gets you back to where you were.

For those of you who have the HU_NBT satnav, a new map version is available.

The map is EUROPE 2015-2 NEXT and available to download here

And the codes as per your VINs are here... (I'm sure each one of you can identify your VIN from the list below !)

You probably need to download the files again. Possibly got corrupted during the download.

Ok, have downloaded for a third time now, and yes 3rd time lucky, no errors, gspannu, where do you get the code for car with just the chasis number, or do i need to come see you to update the maps?

Been doing a lot of reading, there is a lot of information out there, i have ordered my cable, and slowly starting to piece this all together.

I have a spare laptop lying around, so rebuilding that to be used for just programming the car and nothing else.

I cannot generate map codes from VIN numbers. There are many vendors on the internet who do this and charge for this service. That is fair as these vendors have invested money in acquiring the software to generate these codes.

If I can have access to your car, I can read a file from your car and then create a Map code for you - no problem at all. I do not charge anything for coding or such things...

Thanks gspannu, don't know how busy you are, but the next few weeks for me are crazy (kids birthday, christenings etc), and then i'm away and not back till the 20th April.

I don't have my cable yet so cant even do it remotely at the moment. But will definitely fix a date, when you are free.

I have been reading that some people have not needed to put in codes, as the car was fairly new, and allowed the next update.

So I was wondering, if I did this, and it didn't ask for the code, then great, however if it did, would my NAV not work until I got this code, or would it revert to the previous?

I updated my maps within 6 months or so of the car being purchased new and had to use a code, there is no problem trying without a code at hand, you can just cancel, the update won't begin without the code (if required).

The chances of the car not asking a code depends on when it was manufactured. If the new maps were released very close to the car manufacturing date, then you may be lucky.

The car's SatNav and other FSC codes are actually enabled by the dealer before he gives you the car - the options are deactivated at manufacture. When the dealer logs in with his portal to finalise the car, BMW backend software decides what codes to issue. I think BMW takes the call that if the maps were released during the timeframe the car was manufactured and the customer actually taking delivery, then the customer is entitled to have the next map code free.
Caveat: The above is not a verified statement, just some learning over the past few years by taking to dealership mechanics and some IT guys at BMW.

Received my cable today, think I've installed the software correctly, so if I find a spare hour or so, I may have a dabble.

I'm going in as they say!

Good luck. Just make sure you back up everything before FDL coding anything...

OOOPS!

Started before I read this.

Managed to code 2 things.

I have enabled toggle for DRLs (neighbours looking through window at night)

and also memory for start stop function.

I tried indicators in hud, but that gave me errors, so put that back.

Ill go back it up now!!

see what else I can manage.

Thanks for your help.

Indicators in HUD does not work on F10. Used to work on first gen F10 series only (until about 2011 manufacture)

The configuration of my new car is

1. Automatic transmission
2. Driver Assistant Plus
-Lane Departure warning
-Adaptive Cruise Control
-Traffic Jam assist (steering control upto 60km/h)
3. High Beam assist- Adaptive head lights
4. Media Package- BMW professional
5. Exterior mirror auto dimming & folding
6. Reverse parking camera
7. multifunctional instrument panel
8. Lumbar support

I would like to know, can I enable following options with coding
1. Speed limit indicator (Technically feasible if you have KAFAS2 camera, but you need to purchase FSC codes. Best is to specify this feature on purchase)
2. park assist (NO. Cannot be coded, requires additional hardware. Buy this option upfront)
3. Lane change warning (This should be part of Driver Assistant Plus - double check)
4. Enhanced Bluetooth telephone with USB & Voice control (Yes. Can be coded if you have Professional SatNav, which you have)
5. Increase speed limit on traffic jam assist (Can be coded. But it does not work for high speeds. Car throws up error on increasing limit. Can be increased slightly though by a few mph)
6. TJA work on any road (Yes. Can be coded)
7. driver needs to keep holding the steering wheel default timeout value and can this be increased? (NO. Cannot be changed. The coding value exists, but the value change does not exhibit any effect)
Answers inline...

On a separate note, the software version in cars manufactured (or updated since last few months) is quite difficult to code. The CAFD files are trimmed, and so these are difficult to code. VO Coding (e.g. enabling Enhanced Bluetooth) is still possible but modifying individual values in the CAFD is now problematic - keep this in mind. You may want to buy feature(s) upfront rather than be disappointed later that some cannot be enabled via coding..

BMW is trying to put a stop to this coding game - I am not saying that they are succeeding, but they sure are making it extremely difficult nowadays.

Coding Gurus!

I've just started my foray into the world of BMW Coding and I'm a little confused. I'm trying to enable the text messaging functionality which correct me if I'm wrong is via EBT? I've followed the fab guide on the 3 series UK forum and all of the posts etc. I couldn't find 6NH, 6NK, 6NL, 6NS. I have coded FDL Code HU_NBT => MACRO_PIM = aktiv as Shawn suggested in one of the posts. I've removed and re-paired the phone but no luck... any ideas ?

The spec of the car is : Sept 2014 Build with the following options.

1CA,1CB,1CC,1CD,230,255,258,2K1,2PA,2TE,2VB,302,42 3,428,431,441,465,488,494,4AT,4U2,4UR,502,508,5A1, 609,654,688,698,6AC,6AE,6AK,6AM,6AN,6AP,6WA,761,81 2,850,853,877,880,8KA,8S2,8S3,8SM,8TF,8TG,9AA

Just add 6NS to the list. Write the VO code back to the car, then code the whole HU_NBT module and the EBT should get activated.

Cool! Thanks for the speedy response. Since posting the question I'd read that you could do that, I just wanted to double check with this being my first attempt :-)
