There are few more which you can code 1- Chirp on locking / unlocking 2- Launch control (seems working on 2011 F10 car but no 'flag' symbol. 3- Fog delete coding (for M5 body kit owners) And I am sure that this list will grow everytime bmw will update the modules.

1- Digital true speed on your speedometer 2- Mirrors fold on your remote 3- Boot coded to open / close on your remote 4- Extended bluetooth features enabled 5- Launch control features enabled (only if you car has been updated by dealer recently or 2014 car) 6- Chirp on locking / unlocking (some do not like it) 7- BMW applications enabled (if your car is 2010-2011 with combox and usb in the arm rest) 8- DRL on all the time (when headlight switch is on zero, but you can turn it off via CIC once enabled).

Just got to grips with this, and managed to do my own list of FDL coding. So satisfying to get the comfort access to work properly - standing there for a couple of seconds with my finger on the door handle waiting for the mirrors to fold, every time, is just wrong.
One thing that is not on the lists is the ambient lighting. My car is an LCI with black leather and the MFID display. With the MFID set at night to a brightness that doesn't cause long term retina burn, the ambient lights are almost off. Even with the brightness setting in the iDrive set to max. So dumb. There's no decent way to fix this, but you can set the minimum ambient light level. Set to 80% (default is 10%), it doesn't dim with either of the dimmers, but now is just the right level for night use. |

I too have been miffed by the lack of brightness of the ambient lighting without getting the MFID to glow like mad ! Just so I have understood this.... I presume (after coding), now you have set the brightness through the control knob (next to headlight switch) to almost or near about minimum, so as to get just the right amount of MFID brightness, but the ambient light is still high (at 80% of max). And that turning the control knob to its lowest setting does not cause any change to ambient lighting now (it remains at least at 80%).... And if you do turn the knob to max brightness, the MFID becomes super bright but the ambient lighting only becomes slightly brighter from 80% to 100%.

Default is 0A, max is 64, I set it to 50 but you might want to experiment. And yes, the behaviour after this is that the ambient lights seem to be stuck at 80%. The idrive brightness setting does nothing and the wheel does nothing to the ambient lights. So I have the wheel set nice and low to dim the MFID and the ambient lights are left at the perfect level. The only odd thing is that turning the wheel to the max doesn't increase the ambient lights slightly (which you would expect) but that doesn't really matter because with the MFID you need the wheel at the lowest setting or very close to that at all times. Give it a go, I think firing various values into that one is pretty safe. I did it at night so I could easily see the results. |

Just gone out and checked it, and it is working as expected. I had the idrive setting on min.
With the idrive setting on max, the ambient lights are still set at 80%, but when you turn the wheel up, just before you get to max on the wheel the ambient lights increase up to 100%. I reckon 80% (50 hex) is just right for orange lights on black leather. You would need to set it a bit lower if you like white, or you have pale leather. The only bore is that the only way you can set the light level you actually use is by the laptop, but once set at the right level it's better to have the ambient lights rather than not have them at all. Worth noting that issue is only on the LCI cars. Pre LCI don't seem to have this problem. |

My F31 (October 14 build) allows the brightness of the ambient lighting to be controlled through the iDrive as standard (separate from the thumbwheel). Is that not on the F1x?

The problem is that the ambient light output in the LCI F10 is very weak... and you have to set the brightness to full to get half-descent light output.

gspannu, sorry to pester, but are you planning one of your group coding sessions in the near future? i realise it's a massive favour you'd be doing all of us, and i'm very grateful in advance!

Finally managed to get to grips with this at last. Did the digital speedo, works nicely. Not done anything else as I can't really find anything else worth adding. The folding mirrors on the key seems to happen already if I press the lock button a second time - can you code it to auto fold with every lock?
I did try Sport Displays - they appeared but there is no reading on the gauges. I guess my engine isn't compatible. Last edited by Fox530; 03-08-2015 at 02:58 PM.. |
