Adding a powered subwoofer to load area of F11
In my old E39 530 sport touring I had DSP hifi and I added a Sony 8" Xplod powered sub to the load area. It had a remote control to alter the level of bass etc. I took the 12V+ from the battery and a remote signal feed from the head unit. I also tapped off of the rear roof speaker feeds under the rear seat squab. This was a great sound with just the extra OOOMPH of the sub.
Now I have upgraded to a 2011 F11 535 touring sport which is literally dripping with extras...except that it only has the 676 BMW 'premium' HiFI. It is not the lower business edition but it still has to be pushed to show any guts. It also lacks any speakers in the rear doors (even my 16 year old E39 had those). So, although the underseat woofers do kick in, if the bass is pushed right up (the hifi only has treble and and bass controls), the sound is unbalanced. So I need more bass even if the controls are with reduced bass to allow the stock non-woofer speakers to concentrate on mid and treble. There is definitely a lower mid hole in the sound. I will one day maybe upgrade all of the stock speakers but I will follow a cheaper solution for the present.... So I plan to install an Alpine SWE 815 powered sub in the load area like before but...... This new car is a bit of a strange planet to me at the moment. Could anyone point me to where I should take the 12V+ feed from, the remote 'on' feed and the where to easily tap into the rear roof speaker feeds. The car does have a 12v power socket in the load area so I was thinking that if that comes alive with ignition on then it could be used as a remote signal on? Any help would be really appreciated. |

You're better off posting in this sub-forum, as it's audio-related and not UK specific:
