Laser Jammer/ Radar Detector

Hey everyone,
I've been thinking about laser jammers/radar detectors for a while now but have no knowledge about them at all. I have a few questions and would love to discuss this topic with fellow members.

1. What's a good brand?
2. What's a good setup?

Jammers are illegal in California so o can't help you there but I love the Velentine One radar detector. It's paid for itself many times over.

Is the V1 a radar detector only?

In Georgia it's still legal and honestly why buy a radar detector now? Don't most law enforcement use lasers?

The California Highway Patrol drive with radar devices on so if one's close the detector will go off. I think the reason that they still use so much radar is because it casts a wide net and they don't have to specifically target one car at a time like Laser. I think the fastest moving object within that net reads the speed and the officer can then look and see who's going fastest.

The Valentine One has a Laser Detector but of it's beeping you've already been scanned.

It has a Laser detector. It pretty much just let's you know you've been tagged by either Police or a Merc or Lexus with laser guided cruise control.

I used to think that, until.......

We were driving north on the 101 and I got splash over from a laser hit on a car ahead of me. That warning was enough for me to get from 85ish down to a "reasonable" 75 which was pretty much traffic flow.

My V1 saved me from a rolling speed trap on the 99 a couple years back. The counter alerted me to the trailing CHPer (by about a mile) that ended up catching the Charger and 3-Series that passed me when the 1st CHPer passed opposite direction. I saw a detector in the Charger as they went by and know that he assumed when he saw the CHPer pass he was in the clear. Without the counter I would have been right with them!

I didn't mean to imply that they don't use laser, just that they are also using radar as well. The laser targeting seems to come from the police parked on over passes singling people out. The radar detector goes off from LEO on a regular basis. I just went skiing in Tahoe and got about 3 warning alerts followed by visual highway patrol cars about 30 seconds later.

If the cops don't get a signal or whatever they get back to them with your speed wouldn't that make them wanna pull u over even more because of it?

If you're running a laser jammer the idea is to turn it off IMMEDIATELY upon the alert. The LEO will see a blank screen as the jammer sends back the same frequency that hit the jammer/detector (they work in unison). You have to be very quick as a repeated blank screen alerts the LEO that a jammer is being used.

A great setup for your car:
Laser Jammer: ALP, 3 front heads and 2 rear. From what I hear rear LEO laser shots are very common in GA.

Radar detector: V1, Redline, 9500IX, and a few others. Max 360 is getting some mixed indy reviews.
The very best setup for your car:
Laser Jammer: same.

Radar detector: Stinger ($$$$$)
Always run Waze app.

Another thumbs up from me for the Valentine 1. For those that don't know, you can send them back to have them upgraded and reprogrammed. Just go to their webpage and put in your serial number.

I would also offer up that the Waze app works pretty damn good in conjunction with the V1.

Addressing questions about jammers, any RADAR jammer is either completely illegal or completely bullshit. The RADAR frequency spectrum is owned by the government. If you are transmitting you need to be licensed by the FCC. Anything passive would do exactly diddlysquat. Laser jammers would be regulated on a State by State basis.

i've been meaning to get a radar, but been cheap and lazy lately, so I usually just run the Waze app and it has helped quite a bit actually.

Waze apps doesn't update fast enough. It still helps a lot but it's definitely not 100% reliable.

In DC, even the V1 is mostly useless. So many speed cams/traps, cops, etc... along with the retarded traffic. Most of the time, I can't even approach the speed limit during my commute.

Waze is hit and miss but shouldn't be discounted. Speed traps without radar is the exact reason why you want a radar detector. Ive been pulled over and my radar never went off and I knew he didn't have the exact number either. When he asked me, "how fast I was going?", I told him, "I know I moving quickly". Then he asked me, "why did I slow down?" . I told him, "my exit was ahead so I was preparing to get off the freeway".

All this knowing he had no way to prove my speed and couldn't fight in court if wanted to. He was super frustrated and let me go with a warning. Had he turned in his radar he would of never pulled me over because I would of been aware of his stealthlyness aka illegal speed trap.

Aside from that never pulled over for speeding because I knew about them before they knew about me.

Noob question but when it goes off does it come through the audio system or the detector itself?
