water pouring our of rear doors when opened?
Anybody else experienced this?
It's been raining a lot recently around here and just noticed when I open the back doors quite a bit of water starts to pour out of the rubber door seal at the bottom and drip onto the ground. It does it on both rear doors, so I'm just wondering if this is an intentional part of the design? No water is inside the car cabin as far as I can tell.... |

Not the same but related, sort of.. I put my window down to pay the parking attendant the other day and forgot to put it back up before jumping on my train. Left it open all day, in the rain. I'm told it rained on and off all day, but never for more than 10 minutes at a time. Car had no sign of rain inside what so ever. No wrinkles or spots of any kind on the ivory Nappa leather, no wet nor damp carpet or mats, no mildew smell, nothing. I am still trying to figure out how that is possible, and kicking myself for not playing the lottery that night.
As to the actual topic at hand, I would say the seals did their job, but I'm surprised the water got trapped in there. Reminds me of my first BMW ('99 E46), whose seals did NOT work as well. For really, really heavy rain, I would get puddles inside the car. |

somehow water is actually inside the seals...because there is a little hole at the bottom of the door in the seal somewhere around the middle and this is where the water comes out. As I look at the door when closed, I don't see a way for this to happen....confusing....

I have just went through on on 11 550. I removed the door panel and the vapor seal that's in between the door panel and window/ window regulator etc becomes compromised hence letting the water into the door panel. All I did was use a heat-gun and to the parts of the seal that were separated I heated them up hot and pushed the vapor seal back on very firmly and it stuck back on very tight . I then heated the the whole seal all the way round and pushed in to prevent from any other parts from separating. Hopefully it holds and were good

I suppose I just got lucky with the angle of the rain that day or something. |

My 2011 550i has done this a few times. Twice now in heavy rain I've had water in the rear driver's side floor board. The car is going in tomorrow for it's 50k mile service and they are supposed to check this out at the same time.

I, too, have never heard or seen this problem and my car is outside 100%.

I think it's just old seals drying up. Happens to older cars in regions where there's cold winter and hot summer. The temp cycle isn't friendly to adhesive type seals.

Just picked up my '11 550i from the dealer. They say they've fixed the leak and that it was caused by the butyl seal separating from the vapor barrier. The tech replaced the seal and water tested the door.

This happens to mine every time I wash my car. It really drives me crazy how that much water can get in there

Hmm, I thought this was normal too.
I will have it checked out next time it's in for service.
