There have been rumors that it may happen. But not for least a year. And if it does happen, it'll probably be auto tranny only. Just like the 335d offered in the U.S.

As a 335d owner, I've got to say the auto tranny is not a bad thing. I would love to get a 5 series with a similar or even more potent diesel powerplant. I'd love to see BMW offer a diesel for the more upscale 5 that exceeds the 335d in acceleration. The 4.2L TDI version of the Audi A8 comes to mind.

I'm looking to move to the new 5 series as getting my 1 year old in and out of the rear seat of the e92 isn't much fun. The new 5 looks good, moving away from the nasty styling of the e60. Living in Colorado means we get enough snow that an xDrive would be very nice to have, so I'll probably have to wait for that, and a diesel xDrive would be even nicer to have.
What worries me is that BMW is following the herd and focusing on hybrids for the US market, as apparently we Americans can't quite get over our 30 year old diesel hangover. As for the size of the diesel engine, I'm not convinced that it needs to be a 35d, or at least only the 35d. It may be that we're not quite ready for a 20d, but a 25d or 30d would seem to make sense given that the 525i/528i have been popular. These cars look like they might get in the high 20s for city MPG and low 40s on the highway, which is outstanding for a car this size. The "greenies" should love these cars, and I'd bet that most folks who drove them would enjoy the experience. |

I'm waiting on the 535d... hopefully with a little more power.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
