Very interesting articles - - thanks for the links.

However, I wonder how many of us with the N63 motor have had our batteries "chewed" through "every 10K miles", as mentioned in these articles? I had my original battery replaced at the 4 year / 36K mile mark, and truth be told, never had any issues. In fact, when I got my car back after the CCP, I remember reading the tech notes on my invoice which specifically mentioned my battery was operating within specs and was replaced per a technical service bulletin initiative.

Nonetheless, I'm glad that BMW is being proactive on this issue by replacing (and upgrading) batteries at their cost in most cases. I recently purchased a trickle charger and make it a habit to fully charge my battery about once a month in order to address some of the concerns mentioned in these articles, and hope the new battery will last 4+ years as well...

Just got my car back this morning... took it in Wed. Had a Drivetrain Malfunction error and ended up getting a VANOS solenoid replaced. Not sure if has to do with any of the 'recall' issues or parts, but just a heads up.

yes, thankfully!
But only until Nov. 11 of this year... after that no way I'll be able to afford to keep this thing.

I've had my N63 package done a few months ago. Since then I had to top off 3 quarts of oil in about 5000-6000 miles. Today, it threw drivetrain malfunction code on my screen when I was driving to work. My odometer is at 49,300 miles.

I had my CCP done about 2 months ago as well and was given a oil change. 3000 miles later I had to add some oil. These engines are known to go through oil quickly.

Are you under warranty? I wonder what the malfunction code could be from?

My SA just called. The fuel pump malfunctioned. Let's hope there are no more problems from now on.

My car has been very unstable since the Recall, I get Drivetrain malfunction errors, and an Indy Shop said it was a misfire in cylinder 8, replaced coil and spark plugs. Now its a DSC and XDrive Malfunction upon start up. After I shut the car off once or twice it goes away. This is awfully embarrassing and stupid. Any help?

DSC and xDrive malfunction you're describing sounds more like an electrical problem. Next time it happens, don't reset the car. Just drive straight into a dealer and leave the car on. They can trace where the problem is. It could be something as simple as a loose battery cable.

I'm. Hoping its that simple. I can't leavie it on though since it won't drive. It idles very rough then dies. It crazy struggles. I'm gonna take it into the Indy shop tomorrow and hopefully they can help.

I would take it in a legit shop(A BMW certified shop) and get it checked out. Seriously, if you keep driving a car with misfire, it will wreck your engine. You went cheap and took it to some indy shop that misdiagnosed the problem and it was a sunk cost fixing things that were not broken. Better to do it right the first time.

Just so you know. My car idled rough as hell and struggled to get past 2k rpm. It was a broken fuel pump and it is a recall fix.

Do you still have any issues with the rough idle after getting the pumps replaced?

My car's production date is post fuel-pump recall, so at least I dodged that one (for now)...

What about any choking in the lower rpms (around 1500 rpm) when cruising ?

And to add to that question... also what about choking (shaking) when the car is stopped (at the light) with engine running? Just had my fuel pump replaced after the N63 care service. My injectors were replaced, so not sure why I'm experiencing this slight shake at idle...

Your car should not be choking at idle. Mine holds pretty steady and it doesn't seem like turning on all the accessories affect the idle since it's a different type of alternator. It could be anything fuel problems, fouled plugs, weak battery to Mass Air Sensor(or whatever it is called in the BMW). Sorry, this is the first car I don't service myself so I don't know much about it but should be similar to other cars.

Exactly what type of choking?

Does it stumble or is it just struggling because it's in the wrong gear? The normal mode or below is geared for gas mileage so sometimes it is in a gear higher than it should be. Sometimes it feels like the tranny doesn't want to kick down the gear while the engine is in limbo expecting the tranny to.

There's a high chance you might have bad gas. Go for several weeks at the same exact gas station and then switch to see if there's a difference. BMWs are very sensitive to octane level. US gas quality isn't that great compared to Europe. I see it happen all the time. In fact, my friend's M3 does it for years and he thought it was a transmission problem. Then it turned out to be bad gas.
