Windshield wiper service position

Quick question, how do I put the windshield wipers on my 535i into the service position? Do I just pull both wiper arms up manually until they are vertical and then fold them out? Thanks

I am pulling up as if I am turning the wipers on manually, but with the ignition off. The second tried worked, thank you.

Until I read this thread a few days back I didn't know that this was how you were supposed to do this (only had the car for a week), so I spent over 30 minutes last weekend trying to get this to work but it wouldn't (even tho the manual says it should). Back to the dealer yesterday for this & some other issues & it took their most knowledgeable salesman over 20 minutes to get it repeatedly work! None of us could figure out why it wasn't initially working or what he did specifically to get it working but anyway it now works consistently - go figure eh!

Thanks guys. I fiddled around with the iDrive for a while, shrugged and gave up because it wasn't critical at the time. Now I know!

Just to note that your car has to be in radio-ready state for this work - i.e. immediately after you get into the car or right after you turn the ignition off. Then you just push the right lever to the top and hold it there until they lift.
