Anyone has experiences (after awhile, maybe over a year) with vinyl?
I currently have my roof wrapped already but I keep hearing both sides, some says after awhile if you take off the vinyl it will ruin your paint/clear coat, some says it actually protects the paint and no issue to take it off after having it on for years.
So any input guys? If it's bad then I'll just remove it soon. Thanks |

My car has various body panels wrapped and it's been around two years since it was done. No issues so far but I have not tried removing it so can't comment on paint damage.
I went for 3M wrap which is meant to be one of the best out there. |

Watch this link, it shows a wrap being removed from an Audi R8. This is probably the best customiser in the UK at the moment, he does all the stars/sportsmans cars in the UK. Even Lamborghini and Bugatti send him customers cars, some of them new!

Yeah I think so
Obviously if the paintwork is sound then it will come off fine, if the car is very old I guess there is more of a chance of the paint peeling at weak points that may not be immediately apparent to the eye... Worth checking out these guys you tube channel, some great cars wrapped on there |

Mine is done at the shop but it doesn't seem too hard. The guy took off the rail bars, then lay the vinyl on. He started on the front roof, then move down slowly to tge back. Then he cut a line where the antenna is then trim they open space to a hole with the antenna in it. Tuck edge inside the rubber liners and put back the rail bar. Done. For the sunroof, have it open then wrap the edge too (I bet you seen the video on this, so you know what I'm talking about). Mine, we keep the roof close and just trim around it. I didnt mind cause Im not planning to keep it 3,4 years anyway. |

I was thinking of doing it with carbon fiber. But like you posted if I remove it will there be any damages? It Sounds simple enough...I did my window trim/reflector/door trim/side trim...how hard could the roof be?

I wrap other stuff by myself too. Kinda fun. I wouldnt say wrapping the roof is too hard but it's better if you have a friend to help you to lay down the vinyl at the beginning since it's a big piece. Then after that...kinda easy. Pretty much slowly work with squeegee. For the antenna, like I said cut a small straight line then put it down with the antenna go through that line.
If you want to wrap the antenna, I have a thread under DIY. It's more like showing the method because I wasn't detail enough and did my too well, so I will do it again this weekend but that is the method I used. Last edited by jasonle89; 04-21-2015 at 10:04 PM.. |
