What tires are you going to put on next?

Since I'm almost down to wear mark, I've been debating which tire I'm going to put on. from list of runflats I think there are couple options;

dunlop SP sportmaxx
bridgestone Potenza RE050A
Pirelli P-zero

which would you choose? do you think I should go non-runflat? btw I didn't list continental because they had that notorious 70-75mph vibration, had that replaced by dealer thank god.

My 535 came with Pirelli Cinturato P7's, and so far they have been better than expected. Good wet and dry grip, no vibration, very quiet, and an extremely comfortable ride (for a run- flat). So much better than the Goodyear Eagle GA's that came on the E60, which handled well but were so hard that you felt every single bump in the road.

I think PSS is very good, but tread life is too short for practical use. I'd definitely choose this if I was going to circuits.

I went with Toyo Proxies 4 Plus tires and bagged a spare with a baby floor jack in the trunk. Not many XL load rated all-season performance tires on the market, and I loved the way the Toyo performed on my Audi RS4.

Most of the RFT options available are touring tires with very stiff sidewalls. Your choice really depends on your driving style, ride comfort, and weather conditions you expect to face in your car. If you have a snow car or a winter wheel set, then by all means go with the Michelin PSS, but if you set it and forget it then consider the Toyos.

I replaced the OEM Dunlop RFT Sportmaxx 18" tires with winter Nokians WRA3.
Got a set of 19" 331 rims and put summer Kumho Ecsta Le Sport (ku39) non RFT.
Hope they will be fine for the price (half of PS2)

My car came with Goodyear LS2 RFT All Seasons on the 19" M Sport wheels. I tried to get the dealer to swap them off when I took delivery for something different, but there were no other options in that size on anything on the lot.

I thought it to be quite lame that the M Sport package would not include a dedicated sumer tire.

Anyways, after driving with Non RFT this winter (18" Pirellie Sottozero) I really like the ride of non RFT.

I will probably go for Pirelli PSS, perhaps Conti DW's. I will decide in the spring. Either way, as long as I get away from RFT and All Seasons, I will be happy.

I bought the Continental Mobility Kit as my back up plan since I went with non RFT for winter so I am covered in the event of a flat. I also plan to pick up a puncture kit as extra insurance.

Skip the hankook evo v12 tires. They suck. On a lighter car they at alight. I have tried them on an e39 540 and they are so stiff. The ride quality was terrible.

I am going with continental dws.

most ppl used these give good feedbacks on these, even on heavy cars like 2008 BMW 550i and 2001 BMW M5.
My car is quite light only 1680kg, maybe 540 has a big engine so much heavier.

I like Continental DW better than DWS but they dont have the 20" size for my car

I have the Hankook V12s on my 528i currently and like the way the feel and handle better than the DWSs that I felt were too soft. I did have the DWSs on my car for almost a year before replacing them. Long story.....The DWSs did wear very well and hardly showed any signs of wear after about 15K miles.

My 528xi came on the 18" ContiSportContact RFT, and being a tire noise whacko, I've been thinking on replacing them with the Dunlop model you had (either RFT or non-RFT, still debating about all pros and cons). The reason being that my current Contis are extremely noisy (75 dB on the label), while the Dunlops seem to be the quietest tires out there (65 - 68 dB only).

My question to is this: before you replaced your Dunlops, did you notice how noisy the really are? TIA,

Piotr

I'm on bridgestone 760s now and love it. I'll need to replace the rear soon and I'm on the fence between the BS 760 and Nitto Invo.

I wont touch Hankook because I had one before and it literally shredded within 6 months of purchase.

Did the same here myself. No complaints so far...but still 500 miles under on the tires. Will let you know. But Run Flats...No swapped those at 1st thing. Much better ride now and less hassle for replacement(s) from what I've heard.

Don't trust the label but have a chance to test tires personally if you can.
My experience:
18" non staggered Dunlop OEM Sportmaxx RFT: good summer tire, normal noise but floating feeling. Tread fast consumption
18" non staggered Nokian W3A3 non RFT: excellent winter tire (tested on icy conditions and snow), very good comfort (not noisy), good tread consumption
19" staggered Kumho Ecsta LE Sport non RFT: excellent summer tire for the price, not noisy and very good wet traction. Only 1000 km for testing tread consumption

Cheers

Thanks - unfortunately, buying for trying is a tad too expensive for me . I usually don't trust labels and other written specs, but when they come from the same source, I guess they can be a good enough indication of relative differences...

My car was a CPO and came with Michelin Primacy HP run flats. They are quiet and seem to water pretty good except the front tires that already had an out of alignment wear pattern established on the outer edges of both tires. If these were available in the 20" sizes (255/35/ & 295/30) I'd use them again, but they are not, so I'm going with the Michelin PIlot Super Sports. The only drawback is now i need a spare tire as they aren't runflats. I don't do canyon carving with my car so the stiff sidewall thing doesn't bother me. I like the convenience of if I do get a flat, I can at least get off the road via an exit without jacking up my rim.

I'm bumping this thread up in hope someone who actually drove the F10 on both the above tire models could share his observations on how they compare noise-wise...

I'm a tire noise sucker, but as has been said I don't blindly believe the noise ratings on labels. And unfortunately, I have no opportunity to test drive a car on the Dunlops, so the only thing I know is that my Contis are very, very noisy

Thanks

Piotr

What size tire

So I am on board with replacing the run flats with non-run flats. Is it better to stay with the stock sizes? I am actually switching the stock 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 with Bavarian M359 rims, same size. So stuck is 275/35 and 245/40. I like bigger but do not want to compramise handling.
