Is the M5 built alongside the regular 5 series? If it is then it would make sense that they make the switch to 2013 all togther. If not then no idea.

The M5 is built on the same line as all of the other F10 cars. They will all switch production at the same time. Furthermore, the body electronics are the same between the two vehicles.
In fact almost the entire BMW line will have a production change in July. Some countries determine model years in different ways, but what North America calls model year 2013 will start with production on 7/1/2012. More info on what's changning will become concrete when the F01 refresh is revealed in the coming weeks.

Does anyone know if there are any big changes in the pipeline for 2013 as regards car electronics and board computer, such as the big overhaul that BMW did to the iDrive's hardware and software at the end of 2008/2009? |

Hi,
I am from Saudi Arabia and I just ordered my 530i two weeks ago and the production will start at 14th of April and the dealer said that the model will be 2013 :S he even talked to the factory to make sure ? either we will get the 2013 early or the dealer just playing with the models number |

All, thanks for all of the information.
My wife and I are trying to decide between the Audi A6 3.0T Prestige/20" Sport Package and an M-Sport 535i. I think it might be worth the wait to put this purchase on the back burner for a few months to see what happens when the F10 M5 hits the USA. I know that when I ordered my 2009 E90 M3, the E90 3-Series got the LCI changes around the same time. We would like to purchase a car as up to date as possible.

In Canada, waiting for a 2012 535xi meant seeing an improvement in the hesitation issue, but we can't get ARS and Dynamic Drive for 2012. If we want that option, we need to move to a 550xi. So not always good news. I watched a BMW video on the M5 recently which had an engineer explaining the technology of the new engine. He said that the next year would see a change to the Valvetronic system and the induction system in the 550 to improve performance and fuel economy. Currently the M5 is rated at slightly lower consumption than the 550x drive. |

Production for the month when a model change year is a key issue. We have had a while model year change in the September / October, both BMW and MINI. This is changing now. From this year, starting a new model year from July-production (August-production E70 / E71 / F25). This means that 07 08/2012 marks the start of production for 2013 model year, both BMW and MINI. Two exceptions for just 2013 model year is, however, F30 and R60. These models replace the first model year to 2013 from 11/2012. F31 and E84 LCI launch direct high as 2013 model. |

But I expect the engine changes. That BMW will make 50i and 35i engines different output? 407 hp 550i, 750i and 650i Grand Cupe 450 hp. 306 hp have 535i, and 640i, 740i, get 320hp, this is strange, here I think that something is happening, just a feeling I have. Comes with info if I get to hear some more news. |

The reason for September changes was because most factories closed in August for the European vacation season, so when they reopened in September the cars were the next model year. Non-German factories would change a month later because the new spec engines or other German made parts would need that time to get to those factories after starting production in September. To keep US 3Series stocks up Rosslyn South Africa would produce 3 Series at over-full capacity during this time because thy would only close over December, the usual South African vacation month. Now if they change in July they will only produce during July then close in August then reopen in September ?

Known changes from July 2012 Production
1) Windscreen / windshield - all models ( Probably just a supplier change) 2) New Light/Rain sensor - all models ( From 7 Series Facelift) 3) 4 Internal electric control module changes ( Owners will probably not notice anything) 4) M5 get B&O sound system option - possibly some other models aswell 5) M5 gets Ceramic Brake option

The 2013 model is in fact starting production after July 2012. Today I learned from my vendor that if I ask for a delivery for mid-September, then the car will start production two to three weeks before and it will for sure be the 2013 model (whatever novelties it brings).
BMW is having some really impressive response times! Two to three weeks internal lead time is really world class in the automotive industry. |

^^ sweet. Now we just have to see what other changes (if any) is going into the 2013 cars. The facelifted 7 series is suppose to debut in the China auto show this week so we might get more information about changing in the bmw line up.
