535i potential warranty issues (Turbo coolant leakge and oil pan leak)

Hi guys,

In doing the m-sport bumper swap, I found the following issues when removing the splash panel-
  1. Turbocharger coolant leak
  2. Oil pan leak

My car is currently at the dealership for one final repair and I hope I won't get the run-around as the car is almost out of warranty (49,600 miles). Will update this thread when I get a response back from the dealer. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

Anyone have the BMW Powertrain plus warranty? If so, would this warranty cover something like the issues I'm experiencing?

thanks,
hamanncheese

As a fellow California resident, I strongly recommend that you dig into your warranty documents and be prepared to show your dealer the supplemental "California Emission Warranty Parts List (7 Years or 70,000 miles)" if they give you grief on not covering your repairs - - especially those related to the turbo.

This information is found at the back of the warranty documents that should have come with your vehicle, and list a variety of emissions-related components (including your turbo) that the Mothership will provide extended warranty coverage for California owners.

If you can't find your original warranty documents, you can either get them from BMW USA's site (once you log-in under the "My BMW" link) or you can send me a PM and I'll forward you the PDF.

Hope this helps...

Good luck!

Thank you, sir! Good to know that the turbo is considered part of the emissions-related components. My dealership has been pretty good for the most part, however I had to find these issues myself. So much for asking the dealer to inspect the car with a fine toothed comb!

Issues resolved!

Two issues associated with the coolant leak. Dealer pressure tested the coolant system. Turned out the radiator had a leak and the turbo coolant lines had worn O-rings.

Parts replaced- Radiator (17118615426), O-rings (3x 11537590575)

The oil leak was caused by leaky oil filter housing seals. Dealer removed intake manifold and oil filter housing to replace both seals.

Parts replaced - Gaskets (11427537293 and 11428637820)

Hope this helps someone else who is experiencing similar issues.

Thankfully, yes. 300 miles left on the 50k warranty. I'm thinking I should get the Extended warranty for peace of mind. However, I just got a brand new radiator.

Thanks for the follow up and detailed explanation.
It's annoying that these problems would crop up at only 50,000 miles, but it's good to know we have to keep an eye on these areas.

No worries. It's annoying that I had to be the one to find the issue and not the dealer. Your sig says you've coded some features. Any good ones worth mentioning? Where in CA are you? Would love to learn how to code my car.
