Ownership time of f10

Hi chaps

I was just curious and interested in other members view of how long they intend to keep their f10. More especially since the arrival of the new 5er.

As members may have leased or purchased, ownership length will vary but those who have bought or will end up buying would love to hear your thoughts.

Mine is a 2011. Plan to keep it at least ten years. Have 39k miles on the clock and the spec I will ever need. I know selling it now I will not get much for it and know I can't buy what I'd like for that money I'd get. And I don't want to add any extra money on top.

I'd love to get 100,000 or 15 years out of it the most.

Regards
Sp

My 2016 (October) build F10 535D M Sport has most options and individual paint and leather, however I always get itchy feet, so might keep it til October or IF I see a M3 CP at the right price to change may just go that way.
Not sure on the new G30 yet, the M550i might be worth a punt IF it's not silly money.
My car is always garaged and mint, but it does not seem to matter to the stealers, there offers are shite in general.
If I don't get a reasonable price it will stay as it's a really good car.
I am not giving it away.

John - you are the only person I know who changes his car more often than me !

I think we both know you will be putting an order in for an M550i within a few months

My 2010 is just about to hit 150k, plan is to keep it another couple of years and either replace with something more exciting or supplement it with a weekend toy. I'd be surprised if I didn't see 200k out of it.

Mine is a 2010 launch model that I've owned since May 2011. It has all of the toys I need (comfort seats would have been nice) and is at 48000 miles. I intend keeping it for another 5 years at least.

Garage List
2015 BMW X5  [10.00]
2013 BMW M5 [SOLD]  [10.00]
2013 BMW 535i [SOLD]  [10.00]
Currently, my extended warranty is good til 100k miles so depending on life's situation probably sell it prior to that.

Good topic. Something I'm thinking about in slow time.

Mine will be 6-years old in July, but at only 40k miles and running an extended warranty, (next service in July, still in the service package), makes no sense to change 'yet'.

Other factor is the cost to change. My F11 is loaded with options, so a new/newer car has to compete on the toy count as well. Will cost a lot, simply to get into the 'latest' model with similar specification.

Cost per mile... I should really keep my current car a much longer time, get the best value out of it. Current mileage not being an issue and I'm only driving about 8k miles a year.

I also suspect that high discounts ( at leat here in the UK of between 14 and 19% according to these forums) may mean a hit on f10 trade in values.....

Kept my first F10 520d for 3 years, now on a brand new F10 535d with practically every option ticked, bought for less than I paid for the 520d in 2013, so I expect that will be a minimum 3 years until the G30 comes down off list price.

Hi John thanks for replying

I totally agree with you!

We look after our cars keeping them mint and the stealers don't care. I always feel who ever buys the car next will have a very decent car but the number they come out with at trade in time is just ridiculous.

Hence when I started this thread I've come to unless buying new you don't know what type of car your buying and how it was looked after. As the dealers just spruce them up again and rest to sell.
Your car with individual paint and leather is rare on a m5 let alone on a non m car. It's a keeper in my eyes. M3 cp well that's another story ?

Hi thanks for replying!

I would love to get that kind of mileage out of mine. That way I know I've got the value for money out of it. Best way to beat the deprivation!

Well done!

Hi Martin

You've got good use out of it and will definitely have come 120k in four to five years.
Mileage wise I wish I was there so I feel I got my money's worth but in terms of time and serving it's purpose hopefully I should feel the car played its part well!

Thanks for replying!

Hi

Mine is a March 11 and I am like yourself still thinking another five years or so. I still see 07, 57 plate 5ers around some looking mint and serving its purpose well.

Thanks for replying!

Hi ap

Your car sounds a gem with hardly any use. Whoever buys it has got a lovely second hand buy!

Thanks for replying!

Thanks for replying!

Hi highland Pete

Thanks for replying

Mine too is 6-years old and at a similar 39k miles and running an extended warranty, son for me makes no sense to change 'yet'.

Other factor as you said is cost to change. Is chaps on this forum have our options to suit our Individual needs snd so as you rightly said a new/newer car has to compete on the toy count as well. For me at my stage In life with a young family etc it's going to be cost a lot to simply get into the 'latest' model with similar toys.

I think when I bought this one, similar to a house analogy I purchased it for the long haul not to chop and change and as you said to get enough use out of it to feel I got my money's worth. If money wasn't a problem for me I'd love to get into the latest model with same or better spec and engine etc but for now this is more than I could have wished for so I'm going to be contempt with this car and be thankful I have this as a car anyway. Could've been a different story where I would be trying to buy this car now second hand so can't complain on that respect.

I've found it's the same story with iPhones and smartphones etc. It serves its purpose, wouldn't mind the latest version but the cost to change is nothing compared to a few-tens of thousands to get the latest version.

After reading everyone's input I'm going to rekindle the spirit with my f10 and be happy with it as they say.

Thanks everyone!

Hi piers

Thanks for replying

The fact you are on your second f10 shows it's a great car to continue driving and an all round great 5er!

This is my old car, interestingly sold it back to BMW for more than they are selling it for, but whoever buys it is going to get a genuine car and as the delivery guy who inspected it said, it was in better condition at 3 years old than some new cars he delivers.

Keeping chopping and changing is always costly, I sold the last one as I had an F-Pace offered to me and fancied a change, long story, but 5 months later I am back in an almost identical car, says a lot really...
