Wheel and Tire insurance if I plan on removing the runflat tires?
I just picked up a 2013 550xi MSport that has the Goodyear LS2 19" tires. After a lot of searching on here, I think I'm going to replace them. It's a lease, so I will need new tires in three years anyways. I had the Continental DWS on my 335 and they were great so I will probably go with them. I am in Boston, so the snow traction is important and they did fine this past winter.
So my actual question is should I keep the insurance for just the rims? It was $1200 for three years and I can cancel within 30 days for full refund. The majority of issues I am reading about seem to be due to the bad tires, very few actual rim issues. Will regular tires be more protective of the rims? Continental has a pretty good warranty that seems to match most road hazard plans (Sears, etc...) so that is some coverage at least. |

Discount Tire in my experience over the last 20 years or so has the best road hazard coverage. Check them out. I refused to buy the coverage for the wheels because I can honestly say I've only tanked two wheels in my driving career and the BMW replacements don't exceed the cost of insurance in my opinion.

I just received my 535 M Sport yesterday and declined tire insurance. I ran 40psi on 18s in my 2006 3 series (recommended by my indy mechanic as he does the same on his 20s or 21s). Haven't bent a rim or got a flat ever since 3 years ago.
I have a lease also and plan to swap for toyo proxes 4 plus. I told the dealer I may swap for non-rft. He said if I damage the car or something from hitting a pothole with non-rft, I void my entire warranty. Think that's true or trying to scare me to make a sale? |
