BMW Carly Coding software ROCKS
So, I have been using the Carly Coding app for IOS devices for several months now.
Last night I was doing some work on the PDC and POOF, my iphone died in the middle of the coding as my external battery I had it running on shut off. So a Dead PDC module. Once I charged up the phone, I went back in and Carly got back into the module and fixed the coding! GREAT GREAT GREAT product that anyone can use. They dont have every mod yet, but folding mirrors, turning off seat belt warning, etc etc all are working perfectly |

About 100 dollars for the APP and the Adapter
http://www.mycarly.com/product/bmw-app/ Reusable over and over. Lets you set your car back to stock when you go to dealer. Fool proof and automatically creates backups for you. Best product I have seen for coding and they add ALL the time to the features. |

I have it too, although it's not fool proof. It caused some issues with my restraining system and it was not able to recover it using the backup that was done before the coding. I had to get it coded by someone from the forum via real coding software. Emailed Carly and they could not figure out what's wrong with it. Also not all of the advertised codings work, such as the TPMS PSI and temperature gauges. Below is their response to my restraining system malfunction after I had sent them the log. While it may work correctly 99% of the time, you may run into an issue that will require you to find someone locally to fix it.
"We are still investigating as to why the backup didn’t succeed. The backup was correctly written to the module and it should have been fine. After a restart of the module it basically reset itself to the corrupted state. Could you send me a link to the forum, where you got help for this issue? I’d really like to keep track of this. -- Carly Coding www.mycarly.com" |

Its also good for registering new batteries, clearing error and shadow codes.

Yeah, I didnt even mention that with the batteries. Normally it costs 100 dollars JUST to register a new battery on a car.
GREAT piece of software that keeps evolving. |

On certain models it can, on others, not yet. It is a 15.00 dollar upgrade if your car is in the list.
You can also go to bimmertech and they will write a custom file for you that goes onto a USB stick and auto programs your car for the functions you want on your CIC or NBT head unit. Else you can buy this and wait for them to include your model if not available yet. |

Coding for psi and tire temperature works on my cic 535i, I also got the sport display to work but it isn't accurate at all probably because I'm running a tune and it needs calibration.

I might just get this. It sounds promising for what I am trying to code.

Just a cautionary note. I don't want to seem negative about this product, but it caused me a few days of hell. I've had Carly and an adapter for a few years now. Used it to successfully code my 335is and my wife's 328. I was a big fan and suggested it on the 3 series boards. I also coded a few friend's cars for them. When I got my new (to me) CPO 550i, I was ready to go, but found out the bluetooth dongle had been updated, and the old one wouldn't work on a 550. So i bought a new one from Amazon for around $50. No biggy... Upon arrival, I started coding. Something went wrong... badly. Initially, I just wanted to change some dash stuff. I had been advised from the very start to make one change at a time, so if something is wrong, it can be easily undone. I stored the original config, made the single change (I think the seat belt warning chime, but I can't recall 100%) and sent the new file. Immediately, it seemed like every warning light on my dash went off. Air bags, ride height, parking sensors, cameras, speedo failure, tach failure... everything was failing. The dash looked like a Christmas tree, and not in a good way. I tried to reinstall the initial config, but the app said it couldn't write back to the car. I immediately reached out to Carly and sent them log files. We went back and forth for a few days, but they had no fix. They just kept saying "try again", and "this never happens"... Finally, to their credit, they suggested taking it to the dealer and offered to pay a small amount to restore the original programming. I was very concerned about voiding my warranty! But I had no choice. As I had just bought the 550 and my wife was looking at an X4 at the time, the dealer service dept was very helpful and - with a nudge nudge wink wink - fixed the programming. Needless to say, I am very hesitant to try again and my wife won't let me anywhere her X4 with it either... The irony was that having just bought the dongle, I was getting marketing e-mails from Carly the whole time asking how satisfied I was ...

Well, using a wireless connection always has it risks. And the software only allows one coding change at a time as a default with the current version.
Personally, i have done probably a 100 codings with this device and the only failure was due to my own dumb butt using a device that had a low battery and died during a coding. But that was resolved when I did a backup restore. As with anything else when we are doing mods to these cars, there is always a risk. But for the most part, this is a pretty safe process. Mike |

Had the same exact experience as XXXEsq. Mine was actually related to the seatbelt and airbag malfunction. They also told me "this never happens."
Good thing we have a friendly forum member who was able to fix it via real coding. There's definitely a risk involved and I would be hesitant to use it if you don't have a backup option of reversing it via something other than the app itself. |
