BMW Vin Number Decode? F10 Restraint Code and model year 0?
Hi All,
Dad's F10 just went into production. He got given the vin number, I translated it using the info on these pages. http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=404164 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=102071 It all makes sense, except for Restraint System (Digit 8) Model Year Identifier (Digit 10) Which are both 0, I would have expected restraint system to be 4 or maybe 5 and Model Year to be B. Out of interest I checked the vin on his old E39 and it has the same issue. Restraint System (Digit 8) Model Year Identifier (Digit 10) Are both 0? Can any one explain this? If you have an F10 can you let me know if your restraint system and model year codes are also 0? Indeed can you let me know if they are something other than 0 ? I am sure all is well and it will be an M2011 car as it started production yesterday I just wanted to understand the VIN. Has BMW opted out of restraint codes and model year for the 5 series? Thanks Paul |

The EU VIN requirements are different than the U.S.
Model year is optional in the EU spec. Not sure why they have 0 in the restraint position unless the EU requirements just specify manual seat belts (0) to be indicated with no regard to the airbag configuration 1,2,3,4,5 etc) My 2014 US VIN shows "5" for the restraint system and "E" (2014) for the model year
