Sport mode question

Is it normal that everytime my car turns off, and starts again the sport mode resets back to normal?

I have the equipment to code the car, i have to take a look for mod. There must be an option to leave it in the mode you want .

According to the owner's manual, this preference should be remembered in your 'Profile' settings, but this doesn't work for me. However, I've only had my '13 528i for about 2 months now, so I'm still in the learning phase. (I realize that some features are option specific.)

From what I understand there is not way to do this. However if you put your car in Comfort mode, it will remain there after the car is shut off and restarted. Go figure.

That is intentional because the comfort mode "saves" fuel mileage by keeping the engine at lower rpms.

Exactly. In order to quote the stated EPA mileage, the car has to default to whatever mode was used to attain that mileage. In other words, if the car remained in sport mode upon start up, BMW would have to use the lower mileage the car gets in sport mode as its EPA rating.

Even though I drive in "Comfort" most of the time, if I wanted to drive in "Sport" all the time, I'd have to agree with this.

Look - I absolutely HATE the auto start/stop function. Thankfully BMW allows the car to "remember" the last setting. In my case, it's OFF. If the poster above is correct, and BMW can't remember the "Sport" mode due to how it does its EPA rating, then I'd find it odd they can circumvent the ASS function, as it's supposed to save "up to 5%" in urban driving - that can equate to a mile per gallon, which I'd imagine BMW would want to claim?

In any case, it's a luxury car... and the people buying it expect the car to tailor to their whim... hence memory seats, presets, last destinations in nav, profiles, and tons of other "customization" options. Asking someone to press the same button EACH time they get in the car, rather than allowing the car to remember the setting, could be quite irritating. BMW fixed this for ASS and learned from their mistake.

I drive mine in sport mode 90% of the time, basically when family is not in the car. However I wait until the engine has reached full operating temperature before switching to sport. I wonder if this is the reason it does not remember your last setting i.e to limit the revs when engine is cold

Actually, that could be the most reasonable explanation here!

Magical thinking. The car could easily be factory programmed to defeat sport mode (just as it is programmed to defeat Auto Start/Stop) until operating temp is reached. It isn't. Factory defaults exist to give some sense of integrity to the fuel consumption/CO2 emission ratings. That's all.

A bit of a contradiction as surely ASS is present to meet those same consumption/co2 ratings... Therefore this logic just doesn't stack up, I'm sure that a programme to analyse engine temperature could be written however it's not as simple as just overriding a feature such as ASS to default to off. Back to my original post, is it really a chore to press a button
