You guys (across the pond) are lucky that you get paid (Eco Credits) to use Diesel !!!
We in the UK suffer from exorbitant petrol prices and diesel is even more expensive (£1.40 a litre)... .... but hey, we get to choose 6WB as an option

Its not Twin Turbo badging on the engine cover its Twin Power and it was introduced onto all the diesel engines as a marketing term from my2012 and TwinPower badged engine covers were introduced MY2013. The 535d you guys are getting certainly looks like a rebadged 530d to me.
Its explained in the press release here. |

My guess would be $3,500.
That's what you're currently getting on the X5 35d. This amount is also offered on the AH3. $4,500 is offered on the AH5 but I don't think we will see $4,500 because the difference in MSRP between a 535i and 535d is only $1,500 - clearly less than between the 535i and AH5. |

Reason for that is marketing. If BMW USA would introduce a 530 at a higher MSRP than a 535, they would be losing potential sales right from the start. Why buy a more expensive 30 if you can get a 35 instead? Although it might appear questionable, it was necessary. It might sound a bit strange on a forum of well educated BMW enthusiasts - but I'm 100% sure that there are people out there who make their choice based on the badge without doing much investigation. They will come to the conclusion that a 530 might be a "downgrade" compared to a 535. Many probably will never know that a 535d in the US is different from a 535d in Europe in the first place. |

Let's settle this: the 535d US is the rest-of-the-world's 530d. Okay?
I would (will actually) take the 535d anytime over the 535i: - 0-60 practically the same. - 50 to 70 mph acceleration is MUCH faster with the diesel, because excellent elasticity. - Fuel economy will be at least 30% better than the 535i. - Huge range. - Lots of torque down in the range, where you drive 95% of your time. - Cheaper (w/credit) than the 535i. What's not to like?
