I have the professional nav system, and the traffic info is updated through out.

The U.S. Nav system gets traffic information over an FM radio information source. There is no cost, but you need some station broadcasting information in your area. I think there's a settings screen which will show what traffic broadcasts are available in your area. There may not be any.

My experience is that either the FM-based (TMS?) broadcast/data is spotty or the BMW implementation is crappy.

There are some faint yellow/orange lines that show up during rush hour (when you select grey/traffic display), or nonsensical (impossible to see) arrows that indicate traffic flow problems in the full-color mode.

The grey triangles indicating accidents/incidents and construction are also useless.

BMW should look at how Nissan/Infiniti implemented traffic flow.

Yeah in the USA it uses the FM broadcasts to track traffic. If you turn dynamic traffic routing on it displays a pop up message with any incidents.
