Staggered Setup for XDrive?

Hey guys,

So the next thing I want to get is rims for my car. I really want to get rid of that wheel gap. My question is that can I run a staggered setup with Xdrive?

Also, any recommendations on rims for my car?

Thank you!

No issues with staggered setups on xDrive cars, just need to match front and rear tire diameters. Two possible tires setups, either 245/285 or 255/295.

Exampel of staggered wheel and tire combos for F10 xDrive:
F: 8.5x20" ET25, 245/35-20
R: 10x20" ET40, 285/30-20

F: 9x20" ET30, 255/35-20
R: 10.5x20" ET45, 295/30-20

The wheel offsets can vary a few mm without issues. Wheel diameters can be 19, 20 or 21", but the tire profile needs to be matched for chosen wheel size.

Lower the car to get rid of the wheel gap.

Just wanted to add, if you go bigger wheel while maintaining the proper wheel/tire specs, going up a wheel size will actually appear to increase the wheel gap. It's like an optical mind fu#&.

The only way to get rid of wheel gap is to lower your car lol.

Sorry to hijack but this might be useful to op.
Do any of you with staggered xi have weird noises on your drivetrain? Like when you very lightly step on the gas during cruising?

On my M550d xDrive the wheels that came with the car were:

Fronts: 245/35-20
Rears: 275/30-20

The rears are actually slightly smaller by some mm.

Sorry for posting to this thread, but cant make a new one.

So I drive an F10 530d XDrive and it has OEM style 351
wheels, which are staggered.
Theyre 8.5 front and 9 rear.
At the moment Im using tires 245/40/19 and 275/35/19, but winter is coming and I want to use spiked tires, sadly manufacturers doesent produce spiked tires in this size or they are really hard to get.
Since I have xDrive I cant just put any other size tires on them because of the circumference difference which will start damaging the transmission.
I used a tire calc and got a 0% difference with tires 225/45 and 255/40, the difference of radius is 0.2 inch.
On paper it should work, but Im not an expert and still hesitating, dont want to ruin the transmission.

What do You guys think? Am I okay with this setup? I dont mind the stretched tires, main thing is that I can drive without damaging anything.

Those sizes will be fine with xDrive.

F30 M Sport with xDrive has 225/45 front and 255/40 rear from factory, but with 18" wheels.

Since you don't mind the stretched tires, I don't see any other issues either.

I'd just go 245/40/19 all around.
I've done that myself, studless tires though and no xDrive.

This seems to work fine a more agressive offsets

Hey so like the only thing that matters is the rolling diameter? All the other variables can be different? Asking for an m235xi owner.

Thanks

Hi. Newbe on the forum.
Just wanted to ask If one was going to use a 245/35-20 for front, how about load index... a 245 tyre dosen’t have a load index high enough for my 535d xdrive, ( which is supposed to have 96 If I recall correctly )🤷🏼*♂️
What’s your take on this

245/35-20 is the OEM 20" tire size for F10, i.e. no issues.

Does it matter if you change the overall diameter to be different from the OEM? As long as the front and rear diameters are still the same, the only thing that would be affected is the speedometer right?

I imagine your wheel speed sensors will complain.
Normally people that move from 18, 19 or 20's keep the same diameter usually within 1%.

Darn, was hoping I could run a bit thicker sidewalls when I go to 19's.

Changing overall diameter of all wheels should cause no problem other than a slight speedo error. I did this on my X3 when changing all four tires from 245/50-18 to 235/55-18. The diameter of the latter is slightly greater, but the vehicle was not negatively affected by the small difference.

I ran 245/50/18 winter tires on my F10 for four seasons with no issues.
