31.7 mpg. Not bad, eh?
First long run in my car.
311 miles. Nearly all motorway and dual carriageway. Cruising at 80ish where possible with several 50mph roadworks. Shell V-power. Pretty good for a twin-turbo V8, I reckon. |

Impressive, don't get that much more from my 530d!
Is that the whole journey, getting to the motorway from home and then to your destination at the end of the journey, or just the motorway element?

That's a pretty good figure for the 550i. I'd get 30 - 31mpg from my E39 540i Touring, on my trips to Wiltshire. The F11 535i is around 34 - 35mpg on the long trips.

That's a question you shouldn't ask.
For me, I don't do city driving, hence why I can run a petrol at sensible mpg. I recall being around Bath for a day in my 540i, that dropped the mpg to about 20, including the 15 mile drives in and out of Bath. My local driving in the F11 including around our rural town, (12 miles from home), with a few stops and park ups, can drop to around 28mpg at worse, but typically averages around 30mpg. My long term 'brimmed average' for over 3-years is 30.6mpg. |

I get about 36mpg from my 535D - which is not bad considering the car's size and power. I am happy with it.
BMW's claimed fuel consumption figures are fantasy. I think this area is ripe for legislation- all manufacturers are at it.

It's easy to get hung up on mpg but the difference between 25mpg and 35mpg is only about 60 pounds a month. I know plenty of people who spend that at Starbucks.
