Heated Seats Electronic Switch / Click Sound

Anyone ever notice an electronic switch / (single) click sound when turning on heated seats?

The sound is normal, as I’ve noticed same since new and on other cars as well, but I now have the following intermittent problem: when a heated seat is on, the noise not only happens once (when turning a heated seat on or off), but continues multiple times – from driver’s seat, passenger seat and even in the rear – in a sequence that repeats after a few moments – even though no settings change.

First surfaced a month or so ago and happened for the third time today. Could there be some type of system fault? Maybe due to water / moisture somewhere? Tons of snow and slush out today, but can’t recall the weather conditions the last two times...

Thoughts?

Thanks!

This sound like normal operation. The heating element in the seat is just being cycled so it does not get too hot for your selected setting (hi, med, low).

I have a 2012 F10 and there is no click sound whatsoever, neither was there one on my e46 heated seats.

I get that it's a normal sound, but what's not normal is that mine are now continually going at it, and on multiple seats even if the heated seat button is not pressed. Sound (once, on or off) has always been there, but not this new intermittent continual rotation.

Hmm; something I definitely hear, and on other cars I've had as well.

Are you sure its your heated seats then? Maybe try pulling the heated seat fuse and see if it goes away?

Mine definitely clicks. It's not a loud click, but it is there.

For sensitive those with ears, you are hearing the relay switching on/off to keep the seat at the preferred setting. It is a normal sound that most would not notice or hear

Thanks for this info, but I understand it's a normal sound. What's not normal, however, is that it's now happening continually in my car.

Are both seats holding temperature normally? All clicking aside?

Good question.

Yes, the driver's seat is, and no complaints from girlfriend and other passengers, which is half the reason why I don't want to bring it into the dealer for this.

Other half is either that they'll claim they don't hear it because it's intermittent or that it's 'operating as designed' (which after 5 years of ownership, I know it's not).

Thanks.
