Mission Performance: 2011 F10 N55 Dyno results

Thanks to Bmw doubles , we were able to get your guys a stage 1 results of our flash tune for N55 motors. We started a day with our Stage 1 Daily Driving safe tune. This reflash is designed to be the safest tune for the N55 as it does not stress out the components and is an ideal reflash for a customer that spends most of the time driving the car in mid RPM range and looking for good torque gains while preserving the turbo at high RPMs.

The test vehicle is a 2011 535i with magnaflow mufflers and a drop in filter.

The results were +24hp/98ftlb gains at the wheel with 120ftlb gain at 3250RPM.

After few clean stage 1 runs, the customer wanted to slightly crank up the boost and go for higher HP and torque figures. Considering the fact that the vehicle has stock downpipes, we did not push the turboes hard at high rpms, but did make them work even more at mids.

The results came in at +40hp and 140ftlb gains with 160ftlb gain at 3000rpm. As the final reflash, we decided to lower the peak torque and slightly extend the torque band. The peak has been lowered to 120ftlb.

With downpipe, the car is ready to make 350hp+ at the wheel. Stay tuned for more results after we build the downpipe for this vehicle and go for higher top end numbers.

Something else to keep in mind here. The Dyno from the GSR tune was done at MD Automotive and their Dyno ran 283whp and 283wtq stock. At that same Dyno edmunds.com did a test for the same car stock only and they produced 277whp and 283wtq on the same Dyno at the same location.

At the spot in Fullerton on another dnyojet Mission Performance pulled 272whp and 275wtq.

Stock pulls on dnyojet:
GSR 283 / 283
Edmunds 277 / 283
Mission Performance 272 / 275

The median number on horse power is a 5.5 difference and torque remains the same at 283.

So in general our cars bone stock should be
277.5 / 283

Tunes from GSR and Mission Performance based on the difference of numbers should be 5.5 on horse power and 8 on torque.

The results from GSR was
321 / 417
With the median HP adjustment it's
316.5 / 417

The results from Mission Performance was
313 / 415
With the median HP and TQ adjustment it's
318.5 / 423

New results are
Mission Performance: 318.5 / 423 (+41.5whp, +140wtq) with exhaust and drop in.
GSR : 313.5 / 415 (+36whp, +132wtq) bone stock.

The numbers are negligible at that point. The decision can be made on these factors.
1. Support
2. Safety
3. Power delivery
4. Benefits
5. Reliability

Support includes free updates as BMW software updates. It also includes available staff willing to support beyond the initial visit/s.

Safety includes tuning the car with in its safe limits and making adjustments if further calibration is needed after the initial flash.

Power delivery refers to safety and includes knowing when running AFR is too lean and becomes dangerous. It means power is available in all gears without purging boost mid RPM.

Benefits are based on convenience features. If recalibration means removing your ecu every time, then at least with MP that only has to be once. Currently others who offer bench flashes, the ecu must be removed every time. MP offers a new method with M-Boot OBD remote loader. MP can also 0 out the OBD counter remotely.

Reliability is still undetermined as I am only day 2 on the new MP tune. My recent experience with a previous tune was unreliable due to support. The initial GSR tune went corrupt after the first software update from BMW and attempting to put the same flash on top of the new BMW software version.

Currently my car is running like a beast on 91. Very much looking forward to adding my unicorn gas e85. Something else to keep in mind is the car adjusts after a few days of driving so my number will actually be higher when I return to the Dyno with he same tune.

Stage 2 is coming and expected gains are estimated to be 350whp on the stock turbo. Probably not much higher tq for me as I'm reaching my limits on manual. For you auto trans I wouldn't doubt if 450wtq, maybe higher is possible for you.

More to come...

EDITED: stock number were not 272 / 295 stock run from MP they were 272 / 275.

Love that Bmw doubles is happy with the progress! Something for me to think about when it's time for me to pull the trigger. My only concern is why spend $1300 for a flash when I can spend $450...plugnplay and call it a day? Is it that much more safer and reliable for the extra $850? You know me, always looking for pros/cons when it comes to our cars!

I'm sure there's going to be a group buy soon after some further testing. So I doubt it would be full pop. I let MP answer the pricing questions. Plus once you start tuning, believe me you're not going to call it a day. If ever opened a tuning shop it would be called Crack Tunes.

I understand you want to go with a trusted tune. I said it before and I'll say it again flash is the way to go for raw smooth power. After the most power you can get, It comes down to convenience and support. So far I'm getting all with MP.

I really hope the guys at MP clarify this because this is a very odd statement. Activity through obd is anything thats on the can bus, what does this mean? Zero out counter, means there is a counter of some sort somewhere that is being set to 0, what counter what is being counted?

Well the OBD counter is misunderstood and I'll definitely leave the technical explanation up to MP.

lsturbointeg best way to settle it is take it to the drag or dyno together lol, all my friends have different tunes but most of them ECU Flash and have never been happier (Proper ECU Flash tune of course). Now we still cruise and hangout with different tuned cars but like Bmw doubles said, a flash tuned car is so CONSISTENT u will think your car is on steroid lol.

Bmw doubles cant wait to see what your car will Dyno with 93 octane

Bmw doubles gave a pretty great comparison of tuning box vs an actual reflash on the other thread. I'm not sure where you saw $1300 as our stage 1 re-flash is only $750. If you saw that price posted somewhere, please let us know so we can fix that discrepancy

Our cars have few counters built into the ECU. First being the last version flashed counter. Every time you flash the ECU, computer records the version of the update applied. We are capable of "going back in time" and erasing history of previous flashes performed. These computers also have a secondary Total flash counter, usually set to 60. This is a counter that decreases every time your car gets flashed over OBD. This counter is NOT erasable at this point and stays in your ECU for life. Since there is no history associated with the secondary counter, it does not effect anything and you can safelly pass the 60 mark. Our test ECU has 260 flashes at this point and still can go for 1000s more.

No problem, I just didn't want to have accidentally released wrong pricing information somewhere. We leave the $1000+ reflashes for M and 550 cars while setting price tag much lower for all of the other models.

If the car didn't have DownPipes and was flashed would it need to be flashed again say downpipes were done later down the road?

The first flash can include a Cel delete for a aftermarket DP or even if your running your oem DP like me. The beauty of remote flashing is you can test so many more configurations without worrying about ecu removal

Btw, how did he know your GSR flash was not running healthy? What datalogging methods were used to find this out ? Since you've been driving for a while like this ?

He used his same tools he uses to bench flash and extracted the tables from the ecu.

Mission Performance Stage 1 OBD Flash F10 N55 PWG

Just had my 2014 BMW 535i ECU Flashed via OBD this weekend by Mission Performance. All i can say is WOW !!!!! What a difference.... It woke my car up tremendously. Car pulls so hard now and has sooo much more torque as well. It puts a smile on my face every time i step on the gas pedal. That being said... I can also go back to stock any time i want. I also had a Sprint Booster because stock pedal response was horrible. After the ECU OBD Stage 1 Flash there was no longer a need for the sprint booster because pedal response was so much more responsive. I cannot wait to take the car down to the track and see what it does 1/4 mile. I am so happy i pulled the trigger and got my car flashed from Mission Performance. Alex was great !!!! and their support was also amazing. Thank you guys !!!!

So, when can we expect stage 2? I have a PWG N55 with catless DP, aluminum charge pipe, and readily accessible E85. Will you have some type of E30 tune at some point as well?
