Apprehensive over Windshield Replacement

If the job is done right - old sealant removed, new gaskets installed, correct sealant used - will a replacement windshield be just as good as the original with no creaking, rattling, etc.?

I may replace my windshield due to damage that can't be otherwise rectified, but I'm nervous. First step I know is to ensure factory glass, just don't want to regret replacement.

Windshield

I needed to replace my windshield and SAFELIGHT DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. NO ISSUES AT ALL.

Thanks!

Did they use BMW glass and sealant and new gaskets?

How long did the install take and how long did your car sit thereafter?

Was it done in warm or cold weather, and if in cold, done indoors?

So no creaks, rattles, squeaks, nothing over bumps / potholes?

Sublet at dealer or through safelight directly; you pay anything out of pocket?

Any idea as to their warranty if you hear noises from windshield?

Warranty statement on website a little confusing.

ALSO: Is your VIN completely centered in the opening at lower edge of windshield?

Much thanks!

I never had glass replaced, but a good friend of mine had the windshield replaced on his 5 series a month ago. He used Safelite and he is very happy the result. He doesn't have heads up display.

Sorry, not a whole lotta help here, but I hope it does put your mind at ease a bit.

Good luck !

I had mine replaced at a BMW collision centre. They used BMW glass and install was very good, no issues 1.5 years later. The collision centre told me they had to use BMW glass because of the HUD and other sensors (collision warning, auto-high beams etc.). Not sure if that is true, but my insurance company agreed with them. 5-series BMW windshield was just over $2,000 installed.

Windshield replaced

Needs to be BMW glass with HUD because the numbers on HUD get blurry if not. No out of pocket money. Insurance covered everything. No rattle or noise at all. Like I never changed it.

You're probably worrying for no reason, I know I did, every time I had to have one replaced - not on BMW in my case, other brands..

Just find a reputable (not cheapest) shop, tell them you're "detail oriented" person and want it done "just perfect", stay on top of things, and let them know if you're not entirely happy after. More often than not things turn out OK. Maybe, ask your local dealer who they use, as lots of dealers outsource this kind of work. Good luck either way, hope it goes well.

Thank you!

Wonder if I'm better off having a dealer instead of a body shop perform the work.

Safelite likely sublet for both, but dealer may be more likely to stand behind the work...?

I had the dealer do mine even though they cost a little bit more. With the HUD I felt that the dealer was the right choice for this one, especially if there were any problem. I really could not tell that it was any different from when my car was brand new.

Those windshield companies such as Safelite install so many that I'd bet they'd be fine too.

True; sounds like I'd be best covered by the dealer then.
