Alarm light flashing when locking car

My alarm light flashes for about 10 sec when I lock the car. I know if you want to disable the interior motion sensor you lock the car then push the lock button again and the alarm light will flash like this.

This is happening when I just push the lock button once. It's been doing it for a while now so it's not because a door is left open obviously which I think is also a reason why it would flash like this after locking.

I'm concerned that because of this my alarm isn't functioning properly.

Any help would be appreciated!

What happens after the first 10 sec? No blinking?

Then is flashes briefly every couple sec as it normally should while car the is locked.

To confirm this is unusual behaviour I have checked it out on other cars. The light briefs flashes every couple sec from the moment it's locked.

My alarm light has to be telling me something but I don't know what

Sounds like something isn't activating fully? Maybe the interior motion sensor? I'd have it checked.

The flashing just after you lock the car means something is not registering as closed.
It will be a door, trunk lid or hood switch that is not registering as closed.

Open you hood and close it again to see if it clears the problem

This reminds me of an issue I had with my e90 - the hood sensor went bad. Randomly, while driving, an alert would go off that my hood was open. Imagine how your heart races when you're doing 80mph on the highway, and you see this come on in the iDrive!

Needless to say, it wasn't really open. However, the little button-like switch that detected whether it was open or closed had gone bad - supposedly a common issue. I never noticed, put potentially it impacted the alarm activation, too - although it didn't always malfunction.
