Nice gap to fill till the new M5 comes out. I'm surprise no M650i was made. What do you guys think? Is it worth the buy?

Man, I totally agree. Not sure I'm a diesel guy (never had one...not against one, though), but I would LOVE a M550i/d Wagon/Touring - whatever you want to call it. It'll probably sound stupid, but I actually like the look of BMW wagons.

What I don't understand - assuming the 5-series wagon is available in other markets, is it really that big of a deal to make it available to the US market? Maybe even make it an "order only" item - as in dealers aren't required to stock it. Saves the issue of it being a low-volume item while still making it available to those who want it.

Not enough buyers for them to go thru all the crash testing required. I have read under 10k E61 tourings were made in 5 years.

But I do agree, I would love a 550i/d touring..

I love the look of wagons as well, and I love unassuming cars that are fast!

the M550d touring checks all those boxes.

And because its a diesel, you can get great MPG as compared to a 550i!

and that diesel torque...damn!

Win / Win / Win if you ask me....

Ah, good point. I was just thinking from drivetrain/emissions standpoint that it should be any different from the sedan. But with a different body, you would need the crash test data. I didn't think about that aspect.
