Specs for Auxiliary Battery

Hi Al

I'm ew here & hoping for some insight.

I have a F10 535d that is nearly 5 years old

Its optioned up with Active 4 Wheel Steering amongst a whole host of other things

A few months back, the steering started giving me an error message on stationary or very low speed full-lock manouvering like parking and similar.

Turning the car off then on again reset this

It gradually become more frequent until it was constant

Driving seemed to be unaffected, apart from the disabled active steer and 4 wheel steer.

At its current scheduled service I asked the dealer to look into it.

Its taken over a week

They have told me that the main battery needs replacing as well as the auxiliary battery

I can understand 5ish year old batteries giving up the ghost, so not disputing that with them.

I have had no trouble finding local supplier of equivalent or superior spec batteries to keep the dealer honest on his pricing.

Originally they quoted me $970 for the main battery and $231 for the secondary.

The majority of battery specialist suppliers ranging from Bosch, Varta, Exide, Yuasa and the like vary in the range from $449 - $527

However, this second battery seems to be a bit of a mystery, so I'm a bit at the dealer's mercy

Does anybody have its specs and dimensions?

Also is this the most likely cause of this kind of fault found a slightly similar thread about a 550i, but nothing else.

I'm already plenty pissed at them for taking over a week on this

Apperentlt active 4 wheel steering isn't a popular option here in NSW, so I really have started to feel like I'm paying for the dealer's mechanics to learn about the system and how to fault find it as they go.

Any advice or info from those in the know would be appreciated.

The aux battery is an AGM 200CCA/12Ah spec IIRC.

It's about the size of a regular motorcycle battery.

Yes, 12Ah
BMW doesnt list any size specs.

Any good battery place should be able to check tell the size by looking at the original.

Remember to have the new batteries registerd on the cars ECU
