I took my ipod to the dealer and plugged in the ipod using the standard ipod usb cable (not Y cable) and it worked fine. port was in the armrest (not dash).

the hifi speakers are just ok. i will have to get the hifi surround premium one...

I was told that if you get European delivery and have the nav option, they install the European maps, then when it gets to the states, they reload it with the North American mapset. My guess is this either gets done through the USB port (potentially slow), or possibly through a DVD.

I finally have my iPhone 4 & iPad connected wirelessly to my BMW audio system without retro fitting any options.

Since all GT models have a AUX line-in and a 9V charger in the armrest compartment, I purchased a Belkin Bluetooth Music Kit. Plug the bluetooth toggle into the AUX line-in. Buy a car charger for Nokia bluetooth headset (same plug size as Belkin). All items fit inside the armrest.

Now all I have to do is turn my bluetooth device on (iphone or ipad) and I can listen to any program without all the wires. Much easier than plugging into USB. Now I am not limited to ipod functions, but I can also listen to Pandora Internet Radio, watch movies (iPad with Apple Case fits very well on the GT dash, but covers the nav sys.), and use other music apps. I am very happy with this setup. Let me know if any of you try it.
