Didn't know I have a car alarm
I learned today that my 535i came with a car alarm. It really surprised me given that the alarm wasn't standard on the E93 I had before. How did I find out? I had the car jacked up to take pressure off my blown tire (another thread...). Anyway, I lowered the jack with the car still locked and the siren alarm started freaking out.
Just thought I'd share how my car surprised me this morning. |

Doesn't the alarm chirp when you lock/unlock the car?

I found out I had an alarm too without knowing it. I was parked under the el tracks (train) in Chicago and the vibration from the train would set the alarm off!

Yes, the alarm is standard I assume. Mine chirps when opening/closing, and the red light under the mirror flickers too. Never really needed an alarm but i suppose its good to have...

not only does it have an alarm, but it's not connected to the horn. It is connect to a siren. When that thing goes off it's bloody terifying.

Incidentally, you can disable the "tilt" part of the alarm system by pressing the lock button for a second time when locking the car (...the red flashing "alarm set" light comes on for two or three seconds after the second push, to indicate acceptance).
Useful if travelling on ferries, when the motion of the ship would otherwise set off the alarm (you can tell that I live on an Island! ) |

That is a settable feature in some markets and in others it makes no sound when locking.
In some markets you can also set if the lights flash on locking or not.

5 series have had factory alarms since E34. Besides being connected to a concealed horn, the alarm supposedly has its own little battery too.
You also have a motion detector inside the car.

The press of the lock button for the second also disable the interior motion sensor as well. Works on the E60 but haven't bother to try in the F10, I presume they still works the same.

I would say that is dependent on the region. I had to choose the alarm as an option while configuring my vehicle as the standard came without one so I guess one should always confirm with the SA.

I think that's what it's for.
On the E60 there's a red light under the rear view mirror that tells you the interior motion alarm and tilt alarm has been disable. But I couldn't find it for the F10. Anyone know where that may be or they have remove that light?

Page 39 in the Owner's Manual, Alarm Sytem, Indicator lamp on the interior rearview mirror.
It's still in the same spot.
