Angry Howling and Tapping

Hello everyone, I have a little bit of an issue happening. I recently changed my oil. Do it every 2500 miles and my car started to make a loud howling noise when I step on the accelerator between 1500 to 2800RPM than disappears over 3000RPM and above. Also since the oil change it has developed a knocking sound but doesn’t sound like a rod knock. I rebuilt the engine 9k miles ago due to a spun rod bearing. Mostly everything from the head down was replaced. No oil leaks, spark plugs are dry- everything seems to be checking out. The tapping sound doesn’t sound like rod noise since I went through this 9k miles ago and the tapping sound this time is WAY different than rod knock. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Vanos? Injectors? Coils? Valves? Please have a look at the 3 videos for noise.
Thanks, Tony

** Update- When the car gets warm at almost exactly 200 is when the whining starts to happen. Unless the car completely cools down it will continue with the noise. Any thoughts??

Just a crazy idea based on some things I've seen online over the years.

Check for a collapsed oil filter. Is the plastic supporting cage which goes into the core of the filter (which is part of the oil filter housing cap) missing? Perhaps broke off in the old filter?

Did you use a genuine Mann (or Mahle or Hengst) oil filter? Absolutely certain it's the correct part#?

Yes, I have checked the filter and cage, both fine. It is a Hengst from FCP oil exchange kit. I even checked to see if I have any flakes of metal that would indicate bearing failure and nothing. Last time the bearing let go, there was a lot of metal in the oil filter area.

Mine sounded like something between your noise and the one in the beginning of the video. Just a guess. Try opening the oil filler cap while running. If there isn't a strong vacuum keeping it closed, then that could be it.

Tried doing that and it does have good vacuum. It doesnt happen at idle, it is only on acceleration between 1500-2500 rpm "See" mew video attached

I'd still go with the PCV based on the sound. Any codes?

No codes. What is really strange the motor does not do the sound when it is cold. Only when it starts coming to temp does the noise appear.

Yeah, I got nothing... although I guess PCV going doesn't always have to throw codes.

If it's the PCV, pulling the oil cap (if you can) will stop the noise. Easy to check.

I ordered a new valve cover and installed it today. When I was taking it apart I decided to remove the injectors and clean them along with the coils and in cylinder 5 it was completely filled with oil in the spark plug tube. "See Photo" I did not get a chance to start the car yet but I replaced the plug and coil along with all new plug tube gaskets 1 thru 6. Tomorrow I will do the adaptions and crank it up and see if my noises where the valve cover and cylinder not firing causing the rattle noise.

Update Again

I did the adpations today and started the car and NOTHING changed. The howling is still present and the knock is there. I did check the old valve cover and it did have a tear but again it did not fix the issue. The knocking sound it not present all the time like the rod knocking before. If I put the car in drive and hold the brake and bring the RPM up to 2000rpm there is no knock sound. If this was "rod knock" wouldnt the sound be present and increase with the RPM?? Can someone please chime in and share some value!

I am at a loss and dont want to keep sinking money to try to repair all the parts I did 1 year ago.

At this point I may sell it as is. Not sure I want to rebuild the motor again.

The car is pretty much in perfect condition for its age other than what seems to be going on under the hood

Well that sucks, but at least you addressed that tear in the diaphragm. Do you have a good European independent shop you can take it to? A through diagnosis will be cheaper than a new car!

I do have a guy to go to. I drove the car this morning when it was cold, no howling or tapping noise. Has me soooo frustrated. When the car gets to tempeture thats when it starts to act up
