New B47 520d se
Hi all,
Just changed up from a F30 330d se. Hated the road noise in it. The 5 is a massive improvement Mineral white auto HK ambient lighting |

Very nice car Im1 and now wish I had stuck with white as the carbon black is a nightmare to keep clean.
Notice there are no front fogs, is this now an option on the 520? |

Yes I think fogs are an option . I was surprised sports auto wasn't an option as I would have ticked that .
Other impressions vs. f30 330d se 1. This 5 series has better braking and high speed stability. Probably a consequence of reduced engine weight / better quality . 2. Miles better ride/ refinement . The three felt tinny in comparison 3. The 2.0 engine is more than enough . I am pleasantly surprised. The initial surge on tap seems to be at least the same if not better . Wonder if this impression is reflected by the true figures / torque curve . I feel the difference in high speed overtakes mainly 4 . The HK sounds much better I'm the. 5 5. I love the lightness if the steering on the 5 . The three is artificially heavy with no benefit in feel |

What's different about them? Look the same as any other F10 lights to me.

virtually the same -
I think just the upper bar is angulated at the edge and the strips are thinner. posted the pic just cause I need to share my excitement ! my f30 was red and there wasn't that much contrast between the bodywork and lights, this stands out so much more |

I've always hated white cars and think they look ridiculous, but the F10 just suits white SO well!
Nice looking car, welcome to the 5 forum |

Looking fab! I've just changed to an almost identical car to yours from a F31 320D M-SPORT auto which was so noisy on the road .. to the point where as it only had the base sound system it was useless. Also due to the fact I had back surgery some months after I bought the F31 it was so painful to drive. I looked at changing the wheels, tyres and even the suspension but the cost was going to be ridiculous so I decided to switch.
I can confirm 100% what @Im1 is saying about the car. I'd also like to add the new B47 diesel is considerably more refined than the N47 in the F30... even with the bonnet up! |

Thanks !
I had an se spec F30 , and that had 17" wheels - even with those I thought the noise and harshness was unacceptable especially over noisy stretches of motorway - I think you did the right thing not to spend on changing the tyres/ wheels etc. as you probably would have been disappointed by the results. I also had the HK in the F30 - the value of the system is lost when the car is so noisy and if you have to turn it up really loud then I found I ended up stressed after my weekly 300 mile commute to scotland. At one point I even looked up one of the soundproofing threads to see if I could remedy the situation and went so far as buying soundproofing. |

I totally agree with what you've said. So I spent the money on the F10 with a few options... still getting to know ConnectedDrive... my F31 had practically nothing added so I'm like a kid with a new toy :-)

Why are you sorry? Have you got a 3.0? Of course you have otherwise you wouldn't be saying anything.

Having experienced by 2.0d and 3.0d, even though I've never owned a 3.0d I can honestly say yes, there is a difference in pretty much all aspects of them except for the economy. However, the new B47 is a step change in the 2.0d moving it (imho) closer to the 3.0d in terms of refinement.
The biggest jump in refinement is the step from 3 Series to 5 Series - regardless of engine or spec. |

The 2.0 is not refined at all. The 5 series is what is refined. Put that engine in the 320d and it goes back to the rattly noisy rough engine that it is. the 28i Petrol is the same, 4 Pots are just that way. The difference with the 5 is that the soundproofing and weight and chassis do a lot more to cover up the downsides of 4 pot diesels. Personally i could never willingly go back to the 2.0d. Im spoilt now |
