Is A/C on by default?

Hey guys,

My A/C is on every time I turn the car on, is that normal?
I always turn the A/C off before I turn the car off so I know it's not "last user mode" thing.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank guys!

No one? I just need to know if your A/C is on every time you turn the engine on regardless if you left it on or off when you turned the car the last time

I don't think so. I keep mine on Auto all the time and sometimes I have the a/c on and sometimes it's off but still in auto mode. It's always just how I left it when I shut it off whether it's off or on.

Yes, it defaults to on when you start the car.

This can be "undone" with coding

That is pretty stupid. I've never owned a car that's A/C is on by default. My E88 does not do this and my F30 loaner did not do this so it must be a F10 thing... weird.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it

it's very annoying and stupid. Why doesn't BMW just tell us WHY they have it like this. Maybe there's a method to the mayhem. Maybe it's just to be annoying.

Mine never defaults to the A/C being on when I start the car and it's never been coded.

if you shut it off and then shut the car. when you restart the car it will come on. My F10 does this and my E89 did the same exact thing.

I swear that this has been a question for at least 20 years. When the AC button is switched on (the light is lit), AC will be cycled on and off according to the needs of the auto climate control. If the AC light is off, the AC will never be activated even if required. In short, the AC light being lit does not mean that AC is always on.

Not on mine, if the AC light is off when I stop the car, it will be off when I start the car again.

That's exactly the way it should be and how literally all cars are, except my F10. What an engineering job by BMW.

2011 - comes on in the state it was in when I last turned the car off. If I didn't have the AC on when I shut down, it won't be on at next start-up.

To clarify, my HVAC always comes on my default. However within the HVAC, it remembers my last settings (i.e if A/C is off, it will still be off). What annoys me is why the damn HVAC is ALWAYS on when I restart the car.

I don't know about you, but I always want air to be circulating in the car when I start it and am in a confined space such as the cabin of a car. Even if it's cold outside, it will still circulate a small amount of air until the engine heats up.

Yeah i was talking about the whole hvac system being on when you start the car even when you shut it before shutting off the car. Not the AC in particular.
