Rear Window Dots?

Anyone ever seen this before? I noticed it when I washed the car today. Looks like the rear window is delaminating. Or is this "normal"?

Sorry for the ginormous pic...

Some better informed than me may disagree but I think that is normal. Depends maybe on the light.

I just noticed the same thing last week, forgot to look it up. Glad to see I'm not the only one who has it.

It's normal, and it's easy to see when you wear polarized sunglasses.

That is normal with all tempered glass, the heat-tempering process cause light to reflect differently in the dotted areas.

Normal. You don't notice it as much with tint and it looks sharp.

It's not just on high end vehicles, even Scion got them. It might has something do to with the polarization process of the glass since it's a perfect grid. I tinted my windows at 20%, they are not noticeable.

It is not polarization. I guess that happens during the production process. e.g. different cooling rate when the glass is moving on conveyors. It is not limited to car glasses as well. When you wear polarized sunglasses you see them on many glasses around.
I will look into it more. (my geek side )

Hah. Good to know, but that makes sense. I might be mixing up polarization and UV treatment.

Why are those mBENz S-Class glass purple, and they look really strange when viewed with polarized sun glasses?

Not sure why the S-class' glass is purple but the dots from most automotive glass are from the tempering process.

Haha sorry, i was on travel and haven't been online much.

But no, that was just a "naked eye" pic from my iPhone. Ironically, the next day driving into work I was behind a Scion xC that had the same dots in the window. I kind of figured it was a by-product of manufacturing, but I also figured in a higher end vehicle that it might not be tolerated from a quality perspective.

One thing I have learned though, is it's not even worth talking to the dealer about. They'll just give me some made up story that the dots are actually solar panels that charge the car... you know, part of Efficient Dynamics :P

Purple glass is the solar coated windshield.

Mercedes also offered (offers?) the blue-hued glass, which is different.

A neighbour's Focus hatchback also had these, so it's pretty normal.

I don't wear glasses or contacts.
