I would never put 89 in my BMW.
I read here on forum some members using low grade fuel then they started experiencing issues with fuel system.

however I do put 89 in my maxima and expedition.

The lower octane is not going to ruin your fuel system. The higher the octane, the higher the ignition point which in turn can be compressed further before ignition thus giving you a bigger explosion converted to power. Lower octane is the opposite and could explode too early which would cause knock. If lower octane was ran for long periods and you avoided knock by not driving hard, the worst you would probably see is faster carbon build up.

We have high compression engines which is why BMW recommends higher octane. 91, 93 or even race gas. My favorite is e30 blend, 60% 91 / 40% e85 = 95oct

Isn't ethanol a main culprit of leaking injectors due to corrosion, and carbon buildup thereby?

There's no proof with newer model vehicles that ethanol is corrosive to newer compounds used in seals. Leaky injectors and bad hpfp's have been a long standing problem for BMW regardless of fuel used. Carbon build up is inherent with gasoline, no avoiding that one unless you have a tesla. I think we're hijacking this thread.

True; didn't realize; thanks for the info.

And sorry; didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Thanks again!

Are you sure that the lemon law in Michigan is not applicable for CPO cars? California lemon law applies to vehicles under a manufacturer's warranty. Just make sure you check with a competent attorney.

Yes it does not apply here in michigan! Today I just filed complaints with the BBB and NHTSA. Doubt it will do much good! I guess I'll take the car back to the dealer again next week for another Drivetrain malfunction.

Sorry about your continuing problems. Unfortunately, the BBB won't be of much help. They even get confused about how the California lemon law applies to CPO vehicles. Just keep hammering BMW corporate. Good luck.

Bmw just reached out to me after I filed the complaint with the BBB. The BBB must work fast cause 3 days after I filed the complaint bmw came calling about the matter. I'll keep you guys posted with the outcome. Not getting my hopes up though.

I learned decades ago if you want to get your complaint into the hands of someone who will actually respond in a professional manner, file a lawsuit. None of the silliness about "seeing an attorney." File suit. It doesn't even have to be particularly well drafted. You will be stunned at how quickly the matter is resolved.

Breach of warranty is a difficult one cause they are still trying to repair the car. It will only come in to play if they refuse to service the vehicle.

Why, with gas prices at historic lows---or darn near it, would this issue be an issue?

How did the story end?

BTW did you have to pay $50 for each CPO visit?
