Are u sure? Not many countries have Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel (EU5 compliant) available from the pumps. In those countries BMW omits items such as DPF in order for the engine to be compatible with the fuel. Without DPF it cannot be EU5 compliant.
If the car have option code S169A then it's only EU3 compliant.

The Indian website says "fuel efficiency (18.48 km/l)* and CO2 emissions levels (144 g/km)* in India". Probably best to ask BMW directly and get a definitive answer.

Yeah I'm going to find out about my car's compliance through my dealer. I still feel its going to be difficult to take it with me given the lease arrangement with the bank.

In the UK I will be looking to purchase a used vehicle, preferably not more than a year old. I don't think leasing will be an available option for me because of my credit history in the UK....or rather, the lack thereof. My current 520d is a very enjoyable car and I can definitely see why it would be popular, and I have no doubts that the straight six 530d should be a truly remarkable car. I would love to be able to choose the 530d but even if its not in my range the 520d is a very welcome choice for me. Everyday I drive mine in an extra-urban and I can feel the engine longing for a good push of the pedal and I frequently find myself wishing for long stretches of road to really thoroughly enjoy the car.

Just for my planning, how much would a well-optioned one-year old 530d and 520d be in terms of price? What is the normal average miles that a one-year old car would usually do in the UK, just a rough figure please.

For pricing you're best having a look at the BMW UK approved car site

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bmwauc/detailed_search/

You can buy a little lower than this, and most BMW dealers are open to doing a deal but it gives you a good ball park.

You can always consider purchasing one from the Olympic fleet, according to Auto Express, the fleet is to be sold via the BMW network from this coming September.
A debate is on if this will push 2nd hand BMW prices down.

If anyone has an Indian spec 520d then can use the VIN to do a check from bmwvin.com & see whether the EU3 option code is there.
ULSD is much more expensive than regular diesel due to the extra steps needed to remove Sulphur during the refining process. Also the crude oil used have to be of a higher quality. Due to these factors they're not available in every country.
For India currently the diesel on sale in large cities is compliant to EU4 (i.e. 50ppm Sulphur) whereas for the rest of the country it's EU3 compliant (i.e. 350ppm). In EU & other countries where EU5 diesel are available the Sulphur content must be less than 10ppm. As India themselves do not mandate cars to be EU5 compliant, it's likely that BMW will omit the DPF & hence it's only EU4 compliant at most.

O, then it means ur car doesn't have DPF & hence not EU5 compliant. I think now it's best for u to focus on finding the car u want in UK.
