Just got new 535i. Trying to use my iphone 4s. Y cable is not working. Iphone telephone works with bluetooth but music from the phone will not play. Tried white Apple USB cable and it worked for a few minutes. Tried to load the music into the car system and it did not work. Now nothing works. Help.

If you have not already tried these steps, these may help.
First, update the car's BT and media software. You will need a small USB data drive and your car's VIN's last seven digits.
Go to this web site:

Download the latest software. Copy it to the USB data drive.

Go to your car, turn off your phone, and turn on your car.

Insert the data drive into the USB slot in the arm rest compartment.

Using the iDrive armrest controller,
Press the MENU button, navigate to:
Settings => Software Update => Update Software
Follow the prompts and allow the car to update the software
(You can always revert to an older version using the same menu)

Then make your car forget your phone.

Then synch your phone.

If you have tried these steps and still nothing works, and you just bought the car, can you take it back to the dealer to have them help you?

It works with Apple cable but not with a Y cable. Thanks again.

hmmm...Have you tried looking at the BMWUSA web site under accessories, and then Technology, and then into Phones and Personal Electronics to see if the Y cable that you have is intended for use with your vehicle?

If you go and shop under 2013 535i there in no product available for that year. What i can see is Y cable for 640i and X series. Strange

I did the same search and that's what made me wonder whether the Y Cables are intended for use with your car. BMW may be steering you towards a snap-in adaptor. The snap-in adaptors are nice, but as you can read in several threads, not as useful as BMW would like us to believe.

You might be right! but Y cable works fine in 335D. Go figure. Anyway Apple cable works ok so far. We'll see. BTW where do you live in North County? I have lots of friends in Vista and Escondido.
