I'm aware that these cars can have problematic coils... So, what's everyone's experience here? Any particular brand for best? Or should I plan on replacing them every couple years, etc????

This. The only other plug I would use is an Iridium plug; unless BMW already installs them. In the past aftermarket parts tended to be a step or two above OEM. More recently (like the last 20ish years) manufacturers have really stepped-up their game. Most of the spark plug hype is just that.
