my wife has an M4, which i end up driving a lot because she drives a lot for her job and we dont want to put a lot of miles on it. while absolutely fun...we ordered her's with the manual transmission...there's no way i would want to drive it on a daily basis.
while i was trying to decide on a car, her question was always "why do you need a 'fast' car when you have the M4 in the garage?" maybe im getting old and soft...but the suspension feels so damn rough and jarring. im so happy to get back in my 550. i WOULD like to line em up and do some freeway pulls, tho. |

Your not going to get a consensus on a forum as each person has their set of experiences and views.
My only advice would be don't get hooked on this car, check out others and even cross shop brands to balance your decision. Do what works for you whilst balancing the advice that you get here Good luck

I go through this dilemma on a daily basis.
For me, I would miss the interior cabin space and the luxury of the 5 Series. I know they make the M3/4 more bare bones for weight saving and whatnot, but I mean it just doesn't jive with me at all.. I may change my mind tomorrow, lol. I guess that's what the M6 is for though, but that's a whole 'nother level of price point when compared to the M3/4. The 3/4 are at least realistic financially whereas if I'm spending as much $ as an M6 requires, I won't be buying a BMW. Good luck!

Pre owned is the way to go for M5/M6. You can get a barely used one for $40k+ off what a new one retails at. Initial depreciation is insane on those things.

Just find a CPO one and you are correct they have horrible depreciation right off the bat.
