My new 2012 M-Sport 550i DINAN
As many have debated in this forum before, I was torn between my amazing 09 e92 M3 and something new. Almost went with another new e92. That car is just amazing. Would have bought a Sport X5d, but my wife has one of those. It is as much fun to drive as an M3!
Anyway, the bug got me so I went with a new 550i MSport. From the beginning I equipped it with Stage 3 software, Dinan springs, Dinan cat-back exhaust, and a few other mods. CF front lip, CF rear diffuser, and M5 painted spoiler are on the way. Here are my impressions after a week and 500 miles: Car is big. Feels like a 7 series after driving a M3 for the last several years. With the springs and sport mode engaged it's a decent feeling sports sedan. Much better than stock. Wouldn't want to track it, but for driving around Dallas it at least feels more connected than a stock one. Stage 3 software: all I can say is if you own this car fork over the money and get it. With full matching factory warranty, it's a no brainer. It makes the car feel like a beast. Torque and pull is amazing and I haven't revved it past 5k yet or even gotten on it from a standing start. Dinan Exhaust: as others have said it's not as loud as others out there but it is a full cat back that has zero drone that I can tell. Nice throaty rumble at idle and good sound at 5k. Can't wait to hear it at redline. The quad pipes look better in my opinion than any of the others. Final thoughts?? Best alternative until M5 comes out. Totally different car than an M3 so no need to try to compare. Torque and grunt of 580 ftlbs of torque more than make up for the loss of agility my M3 had. And now I have room for kids, clients and co-workers. Not to mention all of the other creature comforts of the F10 5 series. Maybe I'll be able to keep this car when the next gen of M3/4 comes out and can have the best of both! |

How does it compare against the regular 550i? Would you say it was night and day difference in terms of acceleration because that was a pretty quick car.

Congrats. Minus the exterior bolt-on bits we have similar cars. As stealth said it's a night and day difference.

Thanks. Love the car so far. It is exhibiting the dreaded 'drift to the right' that I have seen discussed. Hopefully they can correct it when it goes back for its 1,000 mile oil change I had the dealership throw in the deal!!
Installed painted front/rear reflectors and side marker trim this weekend. Thumbs up again to Nate at IND. Painted M5 spoiler on way and front Arkym-Aerosport lip and Arkym-Aerosport rear diffuser on way as well. IMHO and for the money I think those look the best. Will comment on quality and installation when I receive them. I'll post some pics when I get to a real computer! |

Thanks for the heads up. I told the sales manager the day after I took delivery. Also in writing to my SA at 500 miles. They did the spring install prior to purchase so one way or another it's on them!!
I'm hopeful one of the documented fixes cures the problem. Hopefully when they replaced the springs they didn't adjust the struts to cure the drifting. We will see. Other than that issue car is awesome!!! |

Congrats! I just clocked 1500 on my new F10 and love it. The Dinan stage 3 software and exhaust were installed the week I bought it. Power increase is amazing and does wonders for such a large car.

Catback exhaust? I thought Dinan only had an axle back for the F10.
Did you swap out the tires/wheels too? BTW, congrats!

Actually put car on my lift and looked it over....its an axle-back system...gets rid of the horrible bends the factory pipes have before the mufflers......guess I'll need to order a SuperSprint X-Pipe and have it installed....I think the Dinan mufflers should really wake up after getting rid of the stock resonators and adding a quality x-pipe
Wheels are stock, just powered coated satin black. Tires are coming soon....figured I could get a few miles out of these sorry run-flats!! |

I heard that Dinan has a 15-20% sale once a year... I would love to get the Stage 2 when it happens. Does anyone know specifics or how I can learn when they do the sale?
Thanks! |

Reflectors and a M5 trunk spolier are in garage waiting for time to install.....car went to dealer last night for 1000 mile oil change and fix pulling issue....SA told me most of those issues were with '11's.....haven't had many with '12's.....my SA seemed to know all the issues: Software, struts, alignments, etc. I'll post results as soon as I get her back!

Update....Just got back from dealer yesterday....did new alignment, new software update for steering, replaced left control arm, then another new alignment. All is better now...steering feels a little more responsive than it did before.....my SA was well versed in this issue and did everything to get it right before I picked it up. Cant say enough good things about Classic BMW and Pat Arnold.

Did you have to get your Dinan software reflashed after the global update or is your dealer a Dinan dealer as well? Does anyone know if there's a way to look up your software version that in on the car via the idrive?

Yep, night and day. Each mod is too, the ECU, suspension and exhaust. Because I am in Europe I went with Hartge and ACS instead of DINAN but each of them change the car significantly compared to its original counterpart.
