Speed camera detectors
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone in here is running a speed camera detector in their F10 in the UK and if anyone has any reccomendations? Right now I'm looking at the following 1. Cheetah c550 Relatively cheap, lifetime updates but needs to be connected to a computer...only gps 2. Road angel gem pure Expensive - £400 including a 3yr subscription, not out yet, has constantly been pushed back. Updates via gprs/mobile app 3. Snooper 4zero elite Cheap, free updates but needs computer, reviews say controls are fiddly? Any others I've missed? Thanks |

Before you buy anything, try downloading the Tomtom Speed Camera app for your phone. It is super-simple, activates/deactivates automatically when you get in and out of your car (using Bluetooth) and seems to do a decent job of spotting all fixed (and a lot of temporary) cameras. Also, because you never take the phone from your pocket, there is nothing to leave in the car to tempt thieves.

Thank you, will give this a 'test' whilst I'm in the courtesy car
I use my phone an awful lot to listen to audiobooks over Bluetooth, have you had any experience using the app whilst simultaneously having your phone stream to your car? |

I don't stream music via Bluetooth because I don't have EBT but I don't think you will have any problems. The app only uses the Bluetooth as a trigger to know if you are in the car or not. It doesn't actually talk to the car as such. It certainly does not impact my using the Bluetooth capabilities for making calls.

To a degree. You can report them through the app and then it warns other people. So you are dependent on someone else having seen it first. As the "community" includes people who have TomTom devices, as well as the app, it spots them quite often. My experience is maybe 50% of the time I get a warning of mobile units.

It's worked quite well on my drive in to work this morning, although I'm in the courtesy car, my kenu airframe is on order so should be a little more seamless.
Currently looking at the aguri pro gtx60 as plan b Thanks mrpogle |

If you want something more comprehensive with all mobile and temporary sites etc etc try CamerAlert by Pocket GPS World (PGPSW) You can get a trial version which doesn't expire but you won't be able to download the weekly updates unless you take out a subscription.

I like my Cheetah C550 - yes you have to plug it into PC about once/month for updates (it does remind you to do it when you start up), but it takes maybe 10 mins total.
The spoken alerts are great, as you don't have to think "what camera type am i looking for?" or look at a device to find out - it's clear and accurate. Will also notify of school zones, red light cameras, whether they are enforced in your direction, etc (user can switch these alerts on/off) and will monitor your average speed thru average speed zones and only alert if your average creeps over the limit. You can also set the % over speed at which it will start to warn you. |

Not that I'm aware - can't see the point in having a random set of beeps and trying to figure out what they mean in any case. Voice tells you what camera type is near and what the speed limit is.
The main display only shows: time current speed average speed limit (when in a zone) distance to known camera once alert given |
