Ebay Bargain, 6WA Cluster
Already upgraded my F10 or would have bought this myself:-
Bit tricky to fit, tamper resistant EEPROM, but not too bad, good thread on BIMMERFEST about it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121681643946 £1100 from BMW. My favourite upgrade so far . . . |

My F10 is pre-lci and physically they are a doddle to fit.
However in the cluster there is a tamper resistant EEPROM containing the mileage information. The mileage can only be increased, but there exists a special tool to turn it back, which requires the EEPROM (SOIC8) to be removed from the PCB inside the cluster. Also in the EEPROM is the VIN (long & short) which needs to cleared (by setting bytes to 0xFF), and again the VIN exists elsewhere on the board, probably in MCU flash, it seems to take 2 attempts to get the new VIN in. When VIN doesn't match you get a red dot on the cluster "tamper". It is very important to confirm the mileage is rolled back before matching the VINs up or CAS and KOMBI will update each other to the higher of both the mileages. You can easily power the cluster up on the bench to find out the mileage though, fingers crossed it is lower than your own car, it saves a job! Blank tamper resistant EEPROMs can be bought - but I'm 99.9% certain they are fake and not genuine ST product. Some one got that cluster for £100, bargain they are great! Took me a full day to make my cluster work. |
