Swapping M Sport seats into a basic AF 535i

My boy has a 2012 535 basic AF and got some M Sport seats that he wanna install but it wont function at all. It works in the donor car but not in his car. And his OEM seats work as well. I'm guessing some kind of coding is needed. Can it be done within Bimmercode?

Feel free to point me in direction of an already discussed thread.

Appreciated.

Definitely needs to be coded. Not sure if BimmerCode can or not. But I know it can be with esys

I just went through this with my sons e90 325i with a M3 seat swap. It really depends on what wiring is already installed and if the old seats have any powered functions or memory. Most likely you will have to get a wiring diagram for both cars. I have not looked closely at my Pre LCI 2011 550I seat wiring but the seat modules are very close so the wiring is about the same.

I have also found that the wiring pin out for the seat wiring connector can be in slightly different locations in the connector and since yours sons car was a base model it will most likely not have all the wires . There will be a earth (brown ground), sometimes two battery (+) (usually brown w/ red stipe or red w/ blue stripe) for the nicer 18 way adjustment seats and K_can H (orange and green) and K-can L (green) wires.

The k_can wires control memory. BMW also sends a new signal about every 40 seconds through the K_can wires to keep the seats active while you drive. If the seat module doesn't see the K-can it won't work.

The new seats can have the large seat module or the small one. If the new seats have the small seat module then the car with have to be programmed. If it has the large seat module like the 2012 M3 seats I installed then it did not need programming.

Try looking up the wiring diagrams on newTIS.info for your car. It took me a while to determine each what wire went from the dash to the seat with help of the seat wiring diagrams.

I could be wrong. But most car manufacturers pre wire the car for all functions. Then It's just a matter of equipment installed. It would be pretty silly to have individual wire harnesses. But hey. It is bmw.

You're right because aside from harness its comes down to the actual part and code.

There's a few variants for body harnesses. These chassis have a ton of option flexibility so they're not going to load over a hundred feet of additional wire for extra options the car isn't equipped for.

First thing you should do is swap the seat control modules from original seats to donor seats. Also compare plugs on modules as there is a High and Low variant so one will have less plugs than the other. If that's the case... additional wiring will need to be fitted into the car to retrofit the seats. Also if they're from a 2014+ donor... seat rails are different so it won't bolt in.
