It needs to be coded or else it's always going to be on every time you start the car.

I believe that's by design but you could try turning the fan speed settings to their lowest ie off. That might do the trick.

I already tried to shut off and then put that into memory settings but didn't work. If the only way is coding, how do I go about that? Can I do it myself? Or where can I go to get it done? And cost? Thanks

And remember even with coding it remembers your last setting as being on or off, so you will have to turn it off before you shut the car off so I'm not sure if this going to work for you. (IHKA,3000 IHKA_Codierdaten,OFF_MEMORY,aktiv)

a fellow forum member might be able to do it for you or else invest in a cable and if you have a laptop use e-sys. Google that and you'll find plenty ofinfo there.
I'm going to be doing the same and ordering a laptop and cable shortly.

Take a look at bimmerfest.com forums as well. They have a category for coding and I am sure you'll find experts in NJ NYC area there who are willing to help you. Some would do it for free and even remotely, as what you need is as fast as 1.2.3

WHY the hell does BMW design it like this? Is it for some engineering purposes (hard to believe), or just to annoy us? lol

I can code this and a bunch of other things. There are values we can code to have the car remember the last setting, including for the Auto Start on/off button.

Please PM if interested or call two zero three nine one size one six two eight.
