Nice Surprise

Hi all,

my 520d was coming up to it's service interval so I popped across the road to the main dealers to get a filter on Monday. No one at the parts desk so I decided to get a quote for a service for the laugh. Turns out (despite what the supplying dealer said) that the car still had a valid service pack! They took it on the spot, send me the video of the health check, carried out the service and cleaned it. Picked it back up at 2pm. They listed 2 advisories and left a quote in the pack for them (2 rear tyres at 4mm and wiper blades leaving streaks) at a cost of €520!! Think I'll be getting those elsewhere. A very pleasant experience other than that!
Regards,
Dave

Nice. I might be massively out of touch but 520 euros doesn't sound bad, assuming you have 18 inch rims and that is for a premium RFT.

A good result, and I would be happy with 520euros for a pair of Bridgestone RFT's on 19"s

I've got 17s on my car. They quoted for P7 RFTs at €184 + Vat (23 %). My local tyre centre quoted €185 incl vat. Wiper blades came in at €67+Vat. So basically they are 23% more expensive than a tyre centre.

Dave

Buy Bosch A524S wiper blades instead of genuine BMW ones. I see you are in Ireland but to give you an idea, they are around £20 on eBay.co.uk. I bought these and compared the Genuine BMW blades to the Bosch ones and I'd hazard a guess that they are one and the same part. There was no visible difference between them and it takes all of 10 seconds to change them once the wipers are in the maintenance position on the screen.

I'll do that. A friend of mine bought Bosch blades for €40 recently, but with my trade discount I could probably get them cheaper. How do I get the blades into the maintenance position?

Thanks,
Dave

To put the wipers into the maintenance position:

Turn the ignition ON
Turn the ignition OFF
Immediately hold the Wiper stalk in the fully UP position beyond the resistance point for around 5 seconds and the wipers will move to the vertical position and stay there.

Once you have finished replacing the wipers (or cleaning the car) you can either Switch ON the ignition and press the wiper stalk down

OR

you can carefully and manually move the wipers back to the rest position without them rubbing on a dry windscreen.
