Warranty
BMW gurus... I have a question... my 5er is in for it's first service at Stratstone Tyneside under the service pack... I asked if they could take a look a wee paint defect that I noticed a few weeks ago on the underside of the boot lid along with a couple of rattles in the drivers door.. they said yes of course.... that will be £50 per item to investigate!!! I told them to sod off as the car is under warranty and that this defeats the whole point of the warranty...
has anyone else heard of this practice? *** *** by practice I mean crap!!

Seems an odd response from the dealership. If the vehicle is under warranty then definitely no cost. That said even if it wasn't still covered under warranty, surely the fault diagnostic is free up until the point you then agree for them to rectify any fault.

I thought the principle was they charge you the fee (and I tend to get quoted 80 rather than 50) and then they refund it if the fix is covered by the warranty.

If its under new car warranty then everything is covered, at no cost.
paintwork damage if caused by you is not covered, but if its a defect then its covered, i have had rattles, squeaks and wheel defects covered, no questions asked, no upfront cost. i would either go to another dealer or ask to speak to the dealer principal and state your case, if you get no joy, BMW uk are very good at dealing with dealer issues. |

That's what I told them, I'll be making sure that they don't touch anything if they're going to charge for it.....
I don't use the other local dealer as there aftercare on my previous F31 was appalling. The only reason I haven't taken it down to Coopers Durham (where my whole family take their BMWs) is I don't have much time at the moment.

Everything is pretty much covered. Mine has been a few times, had lots done under warranty - Brushes replaced (with 7 series ones), new drivers side seat, left side HK speaker, some rubber seals(rai was getting through), ACC sensor, even tracking! No questions ever asked.

Just got my 'new to me' 5er in at Berry's Heathrow checking out the exhaust under warranty. Process for me was there will be an initial investigation fee of £100 which doesn't need to be paid if fault is covered under warranty.
I agreed to this as the warranty company providing the cover under my purchase from the dealer we bought from said they would cover the investigation fee and repair under their warranty if it wasn't a manufacturer claim... Bit of a ball-ache dealing with the two warranties but it's getting fixed by BMW so all good in the end - just waiting for the parts to come from Germany for fitting! |

Well I took the car in this morning and they told me that there would be no charges for warranty investigations. I did say that they need to adjust the attitude of their call centre operatives!
If car is covered under the BMW 3 year manufacturers warranty there should be zero charges regardless. If it is outside of this or is covered by a 3rd Party then the fee is applied.
